Cloudflare saved my Vercel quota & I barely noticed

Image description

I run https://swapi.info as a side project and host it on Vercel. Thanks to paranoia of my whole account running of the free tier credits because someone thought it would be nice to make a ton of requests to the APIs for fun. Vercel provides rewrite functionality that help me keep the API paths same as the original swapi.dev but serve the content from plain static JSON files.

Vercel complains that there's a proxy present in the domains section. But PSA, don't listen to that. If you host your side projects on Vercel, just add Cloudflare in front of atleast the large assets in that way people don't run your account out of credits just because they can.

With swapi.dev being down with SSL issues, there's been an uptick in the viistors to my site but didn't expect to get 500k spike in requests on a single day.

Thank you Cloudflare for saving my free stuff with more free stuff 😂
