1️⃣ GSAP – The Powerhouse, But Overkill for Scroll Animations

GSAP is an industry-leading animation library that can do almost anything, from timeline-based animations to SVG morphing. However, when it comes to scroll animations, GSAP isn't built specifically for them—you’ll need additional libraries (like ScrollTrigger).

Pros:

✔ Extremely powerful animation engine

✔ Great for complex animations beyond scrolling

✔ Well-documented with a strong community

Cons:

✖ Requires JavaScript for all animations, increasing processing load

✖ Heavy for simple scroll-based effects

✖ Not optimized for native browser performance

✖ Harder to integrate into wordpress and other CMS


2️⃣ ScrollMagic – Flexible, But Clunky and Heavily Tied to GSAP

ScrollMagic was once the go-to solution for scroll-based animations. It allows elements to trigger animations as you scroll, but it heavily depends on GSAP for actual animations.

Pros:

✔ Works well with GSAP for advanced animations

✔ Allows pinning, parallax effects, and more

Cons:

✖ Large file size and dependency on GSAP

✖ Requires a fair bit of JavaScript setup

Unlike GSAP and ScrollMagic, which rely on JavaScript-heavy approaches, Trig.js leverages CSS for animations, making it significantly more performant and lightweight.

Minimal setup – just add data-trig or enable-trig to elements

Super lightweight – no unnecessary overhead

Works out of the box with configurable predefined animations in Trig-Animations.css

Dynamic scroll animations - Create parallax effects through CSS variables like --trig or --trig-deg when using the data attribute data-trig-var="true" or data-trig-degrees="true" to get element position data.

Configurable through data attributes - Control Trig.js through data attributes such as data-trig-min="-100" data-trig-max="100" data-trig-global="true"

Easy scroll animations for wordpress

Cons:

✖ If you're more used to JS then CSS, this might not be for you. As Trig.js doesn't require you to write any JS.
