In the late 2000s, something incredible started—not in a Google office, but in coffee shops and garages worldwide. These grassroots communities, originally GTUGs, weren't just using Google’s tools; they were hacking them to build the future. By 2009, Google took notice and realized the real magic was in the people, not just the code. We stepped in to champion that momentum, eventually rebranding to Google Developer Groups (GDG) to reflect a key shift: these weren't "users"—they were the architects of the ecosystem. Today, GDG is the world’s largest developer network, helping a million creators build what’s next.
