I Built an AI Domain Finder Because I Was Sick of "Taken - Make an Offer"

We've all been there. That 2 AM jolt of inspiration for a new project, a killer app idea, or the perfect name for a side-hustle. You rush to your computer, heart pounding, type in
yourbrilliantidea.com
and... "Taken. Make an Offer: $3,500." Or worse, it's just parked, collecting digital dust.

The cycle repeats. You try variations. You open a dozen registrar tabs. You find something, then check another TLD, then another. It's a tedious, soul-crushing dance that kills momentum faster than a
git push --force
.

I'm a developer. I build things. And I got incredibly frustrated with this process. I needed a tool that could help me:

Generate creative domain ideas when my own brain felt tapped out.

Instantly check availability for those ideas across multiple TLDs.

Filter out the noise: I don't want to see premium domains I can't afford or domains tied up in auctions. I want to see what I can register right now at a standard price.

Essentially, I wanted to expand my creative search while simultaneously focusing only on what was actually viable.

 The .com Conundrum and Beyond

Let's be honest, finding a good, short .com is like finding a unicorn. They're mostly taken. But if you're willing to go for, say, two concise words in a .com, your chances improve. And then there's the explosion of other great TLDs – .ai, .app, .io, .dev, .tech, and hundreds more that are often perfect for specific niches.

The problem wasn't a lack of options; it was the sheer effort to sift through them and verify availability. There's a vast richness of potential domain names out there, but you need a good shovel to dig them up.

 So, I Built Namekit

Out of this frustration, Namekit – AI Domain Search was born. I built it for myself, to streamline my own process of finding domains for my projects.

The core idea is simple:

You describe your project, idea, or keywords.

Namekit's proprietary model gets to work, suggesting creative, brandable, or descriptive names. It can riff on your niche, desired tone, and even length preferences.

Crucially, every suggestion is checked for availability in real-time. No more false positives.

It only shows domains available at standard registration prices. No premium markups, no "make an offer" nonsense. If you see it in Namekit, you can likely register it immediately for a normal fee.

This means you can swipe through hundreds of instantly-verified domains, see what resonates, and know that it's actually obtainable without breaking the bank.

How It Helps Developers (Like Me, and You)

Validating ideas at 2 AM (or 2 PM): Quickly see if there's a decent, available name for that new microservice, SaaS idea, or open-source project.

Brainstorming for client brands: If you do any agency or freelance work, it's a great way to quickly generate and vet options.

Scaffolding side-projects: Find a good-enough name and get building. Don't let domain hunting be the bottleneck.

Exploring TLDs: Easily see what's available beyond .com. A .ai for your machine learning tool? A .app for your new mobile utility? Namekit makes it easy to explore.

No more registrar roulette: One place to search and verify, then deep-link to your preferred registrar to buy.

I also wanted something that respected privacy (we keep logs only for operational needs and we never front-run domain searches) and was fast. For those who live in the terminal, there's even a Namekit CLI for scripting – perfect for existing integrations or just power users. For quick domain lookup on the go you can use the Namekit iOS App.

 Cutting Through the Noise

The domain name game can feel rigged against the little guy. Speculators park names, registrars push premium listings. Namekit is my attempt to level the playing field a bit. It's for people who'd rather spend their money and time on building their actual business or project, not on an overpriced digital address.

In 2025, while URLs still matter, people are mostly tapping links, asking AI, or scanning QR codes. The "perfect" $10,000 domain often isn't necessary. A solid, brandable, available domain is what you need to launch.

Namekit is designed to help you find that, fast.
