Devlog 0: The Reset

 Intro

Hello. My name is Dom, and I want to start building my apps in public. I want to talk about the process that goes into making my projects, the struggles that face, and how I overcome them.

 Selling CoreIdea

As of recently, I have been working with a company to determine whether or not I will be selling or keeping CoreIdea. At the moment, they gave me $500 to keep. Based on what they think about the code and everything, I will receive an additional $1k if they decide that they like it.

This experience has been really interesting, teaching me about the business side of programming and how everything works. The process of getting to this point has been really cool and interesting, and I believe that I can build something great if I continue to keep on working and coming up with more ideas.

I already spent the $500 on school books due to the fact that my new private school requires the students to buy the books on their own. Even though I was awarded a really large scholarship to attend, it is still expensive to stay at the school. Busing alone is expensive. So the $500 has been a huge help.

 Future Projects

I have been trying to do research on the next SaaS that I want to make. I really like making student and productivity-oriented apps; I feel as though they have a much larger audience and are more relatable to my situation. I can provide direct insight and determine if it's useful due to the fact that I know what it is and how I would use it.

Website to help with pricing SaaS apps

Coming up with SaaS prices can be hard. Developers often come up with unrealistic expectations and predictions of how much they could make and create unreasonable prices, which could drive away users rather than inviting them. I created a script that reads the users throughout the day, and based on that data, it generates a realistic subscription model and the realistic MRR that the SaaS will make.

The user will connect my website to their site. My site will log when the user enters the site to collect the daily users. At the end of the day, it will email the admin what it believes the subscription model (yearly, monthly) should be priced at. When users join the subscriptions, it logs it so that it can use those numbers to generate more accurate subscription models. At the end of each week, it takes all the data and creates a very accurate MRR and pricing model.

 Study plan creator

There is a form that the user fills out, the name/lesson of the assessment, when the assessment is, files associated with the assessment, and details about the assessment to create a detailed study plan for the user to follow. It is something fairly basic but a good way to help with having a good plan for the assessment.

 Closing

Overall, I am happy to have a fresh start and can't wait to get back into this. I also plan to start posting on YouTube and hope to build things up.

devblog - marketing CoreIdea

As someone who is new to building startups and SaaS, I am trying to learn how I can market the app efficiently. I want to get more users on the app and get more engagement with the app. So, I have been going on a deep dive to see how I can market the app effectively. And as much as I don't want to create all these social media accounts and reach out to all of these influencers, it seems as though this is going to be required.

Other than my struggle with marketing, getting users to the app has been going well; we have officially crossed the 50-user line, and I couldn't be happier. But, of those 50 users, 32 of those users are returning users. Which I believe is pretty good. Again, I do not expect the app to get real views and activity until the school year starts, which is around mid-August and early September.

Financially, I am saving the money that I receive for paying the apps monthly bills and also am trying to see if I can get a marketer, preferably a social media marketer, so that I can start getting a larger audience on the app. The users have given me a lot of feedback on any bugs there are so now I am focusing on improving the UI. For CoreIdea, it was my first time using Bulma and I think that it was a success. I want to learn TailwindCSS but it seems really challenging and I am not on that level with UI yet.

I have also been working on side-projects in an attempt to get more money so I can buy clothes for the new school year. I am going to a new school and have ofcially grown out of all my clothes so I have been selling python scripts on gumroad. I have no sales but I hope that it can take off soon. What this script does, it takes powerpoint files and pdfs and turns them into a .txt file with flashcards that can be uploaded to the most popular of sites. Cick here to learn more about it.

Lastly, I plan to start a YouTube channel documenting the process of making this app and doing progress reports. Overall, talking about what it's like and how I manage it with schoolwork and soccer.

Thank you for reading, and have a nice day! Click here to learn more about CoreIdea and Click here to subscribe to my YouTube Channel...videos coming soon!

As a high schooler and engineer, I’ve always struggled with effective note-taking. The challenge of managing various content formats, coupled with the frustration of manually transcribing and formatting, led me to seek a solution. Many tools either lacked the flexibility I needed or were too complex to be practical. That’s why I decided to create CoreIdea—an app designed to simplify and revolutionize the note-taking experience.

 The Challenge of Traditional Note-Taking

Taking effective notes can be particularly challenging in two key scenarios: during lectures and while watching videos. Lecture notes often require quick thinking and shorthand to keep up with the pace, resulting in fragmented or incomplete records. On the other hand, video content can be a double-edged sword—while it provides valuable information, extracting useful notes from long, complex videos can be time-consuming and tedious.

Traditional tools often fail to address these issues effectively. You might find yourself manually transcribing audio, struggling to format notes from different sources, or dealing with a mishmash of formats that are difficult to manage. The result is often a disjointed set of notes that don’t quite meet your needs.

 CoreIdea: A Game-Changer for Note-Taking

CoreIdea is built to address these challenges by providing a versatile, user-friendly solution for generating, editing, and managing notes. Here’s a breakdown of what CoreIdea offers:

 Effortless Note Generation

CoreIdea simplifies the note-taking process by automatically generating detailed notes from various content formats, including YouTube videos, audio files, PDFs, and PPTX files. This feature eliminates the need for manual transcription and formatting, saving you valuable time and effort. Just upload your content, and CoreIdea will produce actionable notes ready for your use.

 Flexible Output Options

Once your notes are generated, CoreIdea offers flexibility in how you can handle them. You can download your notes in Markdown or Word Document formats and edit them in Markdown. This flexibility allows for easy updates and management across different devices, ensuring your notes are always accessible and up-to-date.

 Cross-Device Access

In our multi-device world, having consistent access to your notes is essential. CoreIdea’s cross-device functionality ensures that you can access and manage your notes from your phone, tablet, or computer. This seamless integration keeps your notes organized and available wherever you are.

 Versatile File Support

CoreIdea supports a broad range of file types, including YouTube links, PDFs, and PPTX files. This versatility means you can handle various content formats without worrying about compatibility issues, keeping all your notes consolidated in one place.

 Ad-Free Experience

A clean, ad-free interface is central to CoreIdea’s design. We focus on providing a distraction-free environment that enhances productivity. With no ads or unnecessary features, you can concentrate fully on your note-taking tasks.

 Why CoreIdea is a Must-Try

CoreIdea addresses the common pain points of note-taking by automating the generation process, offering flexible editing options, and ensuring cross-device access. It’s designed to make your note-taking experience more efficient and effective, allowing you to focus on what truly matters.

Support CoreIdea: Free with a Little Help from You!

Python Emails

Hey y'all! I decided that it's time to get back into programming. I took a pretty long break due to school, soccer, and business, so now that it's all calmed down, I decided that the best way to get back in the code game would be to learn more Python. I already completed a Codecademy course a while ago, so I am really comfortable with the basics. I also made a couple of Django projects in the past and a decent amount of Flask projects (enough to say that I'm comfortable with the language), so I thought: Why not just make a Python app? I decided to make a bunch of Python automation apps regarding my emails because I genuinely hate reading and using emails. I decided that I would make the basic functions like writing emails along with fetching them, but due to SimpleGmail's clear documentation, those two projects weren't that hard. I added my own parameters and stuff to make it more customizable and more fitting for what I need. I then decided to add on to it by incorporating other features like OpenAI and Google Sheets. I created a program that would fetch emails that fit my parameters and then list them in a brand-new Google Sheet that was in the folder that I shared with my service account. I used OpenAI's API to summarize emails because I hate having to read lengthy emails sent from school, and sometimes I just don't have the energy to read a long newsletter. I go very in-depth with the code and my reasoning on the GitHub Readme for the project.

Click Me to Go to Project

Thanks for reading. Please comment any suggestions or critiques you have on the code; I would really appreciate it.
