Designing for the moment before action

Day 37 of building Unjam.

One thing I’ve been thinking about is how to design for a very specific moment:

the moment before someone starts.

Not the task itself, but that pause where they know what to do and still don’t begin.

I’m trying to make that moment clearer and more relatable in the product by using real scenarios and smaller, more immediate actions.

Curious how others approach designing for behavior rather than just functionality.

Most tools…

Most tools focus on optimizing tasks.

But I’m starting to think the real problem happens before tasks even begin.

That moment where everything feels like too much at once.

That’s the space I’ve been exploring with Unjam.

Try it here:
Building trust into a mental support product

Day 28 of building Unjam.

Today’s focus is interface trust.

The biggest thing I’m learning is that if someone already feels mentally overloaded, the product has to instantly feel calm and safe.

So I’m redesigning the homepage around clarity and a one-step flow.

Would love design / builder feedback:
Day 26 : the first signal that Unjam is helping

Today I got the first strong sign that Unjam may actually be solving the right problem.

An early tester said it helped them finally begin something they had been putting off.

The core idea remains the same:
reduce mental friction before the first step.

Would love thoughts from other builders:
Reducing cognitive load: day 24 of building

Day 24 of building Unjam:

I tested a new approach with early users: instead of making them pick the next step, the tool now generates one first step from their mental brain dump. Users respond yes/no.

Feedback highlights:

“It actually helped me start my assignment.”

“I liked that it gave me one step instead of making me think more.”

Early signs suggest this reduces mental freeze. Still iterating and collecting feedback.

Try it: https://unjam.lovable.app/

Building for cognitive overload, not productivity

I’m currently testing a new iteration of Unjam.

The key shift:
instead of asking users to choose a next step, the tool now suggests one based on a brain dump.

The goal is reducing cognitive load at the exact moment people freeze.

Current test version:

https://unjam.lovable.app/

Would love thoughts from builders and designers.

Building a product for mental overload instead of productivity

Day 21 of building Unjam

I realized the issue many people face isn’t motivation.

It’s cognitive overload.

People often already know what they need to do, but stress and too many competing thoughts create a freeze moment.

That’s what I’m building around.

Instead of “do more,” the goal is:
help someone take the first step.

Current version:

https://unjam.lovable.app/

Would appreciate feedback from builders and designers.

Day 20

Day 20 of building Unjam

One pattern keeps showing up in conversations with students and peers:

people often know what they need to do, but they still can’t begin.

The issue isn’t knowledge.

It’s mental overload.

Everything feels urgent at once, which makes the first step feel impossible.

That “freeze” moment is exactly what Unjam is designed to help with.

The goal isn’t generic productivity.
The goal is helping someone move from stress and overthinking into one clear next step.

Try the current version here:

https://unjam.lovable.app/

I’d really appreciate honest feedback on whether it actually helps.

What i learned redesigning a mental overload app homepage

I’m currently redesigning Unjam, a project focused on helping people take the first step when their mind feels too full to start.

Today’s biggest insight:
design affects emotional state.

If users come in already stressed, the homepage cannot feel cluttered or cold.

So I’m rebuilding it around calm:
soft gradients, breathing space, and simple step-by-step flow.

The product is not about productivity.

It’s about reducing freeze.
https://unjam.lovable.app/

Why designs matter for emotional product

I’m learning that when you’re building something around stress and overwhelm, design matters even more.

A cold or empty interface can make the product feel disconnected from the user’s emotional state.

So today I rebuilt the Unjam homepage to feel warmer, calmer, and more intentional.

Would love thoughts.

https://unjam.lovable.app/

I’m becoming more interested in the moment before productivity begins.

That mental freeze where even simple things feel impossible.

I think this moment is more important than most task-management systems account for.

That’s what I’m exploring with Unjam.
Try it here:

Most productivity tools optimize tasks.

But what about the moment before tasks even begin?

That freeze moment seems way more important than optimization.

That’s the space I’m exploring with Unjam.
