I moved from Ontario to West Van last year. I'm wondering if there is anyone else around, maybe interested in meeting up somewhere? I mostly work with the tagged technologies but I'm just looking to make some in-person dev friends out here.

Elixir & Phoenix Tutorials

I've been using Elixir every day for over two years now. I love the language and the ecosystem, especially Phoenix. I've been toying with the idea of building a fullstack application using Phoenix and LiveView from scratch either as a series of live codes or as a tutorial series but I'm curious:

is there any interest

are there any particular sites you'd be curious to see developed in a tutorial? Twitter is sort of a classic thing to build in a tutorial but I'd love to go outside the box a bit.

As far as my motivation goes, I've been working on a few existing applications but I've never actually built something from scratch in Phoenix so I'd like to get a better idea for how to set up a project. I've also always been interested in giving back and helping other people learn via online tutorials the same way tutorials like Michael Hartl's Ruby on Rails book helped me.

Explain it like I'm 5: new build tools

I have a list of several new tools I keep hearing about but I have no idea how they fit into the ecosystem, what they do or what they are trying to replace:

Snowpack
Rollup
Vite

If you work with one of these I'd love if you could explain it to me like I'm 5.

For context: I work with Yarn as a package manager and I've occasionally worked on projects where assets were compiled with Gulp (build tool?). Most projects I work with are using Webpack (build tool?) in some way or another but I almost never configure it in anyway.

What Alfred Workflows do you use?

I started using Alfred in earnest about a month ago, by that I mean I purchased the Powerpack.
It's fantastic my only complaint is that a lot of the workflows seem a little outdated or needing some TLC so far the ones I've been using a ton are:

Bear by Chris Brown, which I use to quickly open my notes

Harvest by Andre Jilderda, I consult for a company that uses Harvest for time tracking

Emoji Taco by Jeff Stein, it's nice to be able to grab the perfect emoji.

Launch in 3 Browsers by Vero Pepperrell, I've found this dosen't seem to work in all browsers all the time but it's come in handy a few times when I've had to test some front-end features.

What Alfred workflows do you find indispensable? I haven't spent much time exploring yet so I'm open to all suggestions.

CSS Index Generator?

I've sometimes seen lengthy stylesheets that include an index at the top something like:

1: Headings: line 255
2: Cards: line 380

...

255: /*----------Headings-------*/

...

380: /*---------Cards----------*/

This makes it super easy to navigate big stylesheets. Is this done by hand? I imagine it's super tedious to go in and update the index even if your just making a few line changes or the project is in active development.

Is there any sort of gulp tool that would do this for you based on some formatting in the css?

Is anyone still using Atom?

I've been using Atom since 2015, VS Code has some great features that I really dig, a more vibrant ecosystem and I think more up to date plugins but I personally can't stand the way the search results appear in a box on the left rather than getting full-screen results. Overall I just prefer the design of Atom, it looks a little sleeker (although performance-wise I think VS Code works a bit better sometimes).

Are there any Atom fans such as myself still out there?
