Processing Foundation is excited to announce our open call for a Processing Project Lead! This position is fully remote and begins on July 15, 2025.

Processing is one of the most widely used open-source tools for creative coding and CS education. Since its first release in 2001, it has been instrumental in teaching coding to students, artists, and designers worldwide. It serves as a gateway into programming for people who might never have written code otherwise. Processing is supported by a vibrant community of contributors, artists, educators, and students.

As Project Lead, you will oversee the project roadmap, software development, project management, and contributor engagement to shape the future of Processing. This is a mid-level role for someone comfortable moving between code, collaboration, community governance, and broader strategic planning.

The ideal candidates care deeply about broadening access to code education, are willing to learn new skills, and are excited to co-envision the future of Processing with other stakeholders and community members. We're looking for someone with open-source experience and a strong interest in creative coding, education, community, and accessible technology.

You will work with a diverse, geographically distributed team and support cross-project collaboration. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with others and communicating across different time zones.

You can learn more about the Processing software and community at processing.org, or visit the Processing4 repository, Processing website repository, and our roadmap.

The full job description is here, on our website. Learn more about the organization's work on our Processing Foundation website and Impact Report.

The Processing Foundation is thrilled to announce the open call for pr05 (pronounced “pros”), a new grant and mentorship initiative designed to support the professional growth of early to mid-career software developers through hands-on involvement in open-source projects. This is a unique opportunity to grow as a developer while making a tangible impact on software projects used by millions of creatives, artists, educators, and students globally. The topic of this year’s program is 'New Beginnings', focusing on supporting projects that will enhance and solidify the Processing and p5.js ecosystems and help lay strong foundations for their futures.

Apply here!

Participation in the program is entirely online and we invite developers from around the world to apply. A total of five candidates will be invited to join our 2024 cohort. Selected candidates will receive a** $10,000 stipend to allow them to spend 200 hours over a period of 4 months** on their contributions. If you are an early to mid-career programmer, coder, developer, or software engineer and are excited about contributing to open-source projects, this program is for you.

We particularly encourage applications by individuals from communities historically underrepresented or marginalized in tech fields due to race, gender, class, sexuality, immigration/documentation status, age, geographical location, and/or disability. Our goal is to build a diverse cohort of participants dedicated to enhancing the Processing and p5.js ecosystems while enriching their professional journey.

Learn more about the pr05 grant. If you have any questions, please consult our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Let us know if you are interested in applying! We would greatly appreciate it if you could forward this message to anyone who might be interested.
