Zero Cost, Infinite Possibility: Jumpstart Your AI Journey with Google Cloud’s Free Database Trials

The barrier to innovation should never be a credit card. In the race to build the next generation of intelligent applications, development teams often face a “cold start” problem: the need to test enterprise-grade infrastructure without the enterprise-grade price tag.

We are excited to highlight an incredible opportunity for developers, startups, and enterprise teams alike: free trials for Google’s three flagship database services. Whether you are modernizing a legacy stack or building a GenAI agent from scratch, you can now spin up Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, and Spanner at absolutely no cost.

Here is why your team needs to pause and take advantage of this right now.

The “Crystal Year” of Database Trials

Google Cloud is offering generous trial periods that give you enough runway to actually build something, not just click around.

Cloud SQL (30 Days): The workhorse of the cloud. You get a 30-day free trial of the Enterprise Plus edition, fully loaded with 8 vCPUs, 64 GB of RAM, and 100 GB of storage. This is the perfect sandbox to test “lift and shift” strategies or integration with familiar engines like MySQL and PostgreSQL.

AlloyDB for PostgreSQL (30 Days): The speed demon. Experience a PostgreSQL-compatible engine that is 4x faster for transactions and 100x faster for analytics than standard Postgres. The trial includes an 8 vCPU primary instance and up to 1 TB of storage, giving you ample room to test heavy data loads.

Spanner (90 Days): The planet-scale giant. For three full months, you can run a Spanner instance with 10 GB of storage for free. This is your chance to test the database that powers Gmail and YouTube, featuring unlimited scale and up to 99.999% availability.

Why Your Development Team Should Invest Time Now

This isn’t just about saving a few dollars on a monthly bill. It is about de-risking your AI roadmap. Here is why these trials are a strategic investment for your engineering talent:

1. Build “AI Agents That Know Your Data” Risk-Free
The biggest challenge in GenAI today is grounding models in enterprise truth. All three of these services are now “AI-ready” with deep integrations into Vertex AI.

AlloyDB AI is included in the trial, featuring built-in vector generation and ScaNN (the same algorithm powering Google Search) for lightning-fast vector similarity search.

Spanner now supports Graph and Vector Search capabilities, making it ideal for building complex AI workflows that require context and history.

Cloud SQL allows you to integrate natural language queries and AI model calls directly within your existing SQL workflows.

2. Test Drive “Enterprise Plus” Performance
These aren’t watered-down “lite” versions. The Cloud SQL trial, for instance, runs on Enterprise Plus — Cloud SQL’s premium tier. This allows your team to benchmark real-world performance against your current on-premise or competitor setups without a procurement headache. You can see for yourself if AlloyDB really does deliver that 100x analytical speed boost for your specific dataset.

3. Zero Commit, Maximum Agility
For 30 to 90 days, you have a “Sandbox on Steroids.”

No credit card pre-charge: You won’t be surprised by an auto-bill.

Seamless Upgrade: If you build something great, you can upgrade to a paid instance instantly without data loss.

Experimentation: Try architectures you were afraid to provision before. Test Cloud SQL, Spanner or a high-throughput AlloyDB without burning your monthly budget.

 The Bottom Line

Innovation requires experimentation, and experimentation requires freedom. With these free trials, Google Cloud is handing your development team an opportunity to explore the future of data.

Whether you are looking for the familiarity of Cloud SQL, the raw power of AlloyDB, or the limitless scale of Spanner, there is literally no reason not to start today.

[Start your Cloud SQL Trial] | [Start your AlloyDB Trial] | [Start your Spanner Trial]

Disclaimer: Free trial terms and conditions apply. Spanner trial lasts for 90 days; Cloud SQL and AlloyDB trials last for 30 days. See Google Cloud documentation for full eligibility details.

Database Center from Google Cloud — The “Virtual DBA” You Didn’t Know You Hired

Patrick is a Lead Backend Developer at Cosnos Bank, a rising star in the fintech space. Like many modern dev teams, Cosnos operates with a “you build it, you run it” philosophy. They move fast, deploy daily, and innovate constantly.

But there’s a catch. Cosnos Bank doesn’t have a dedicated Database Administrator (DBA).

For months, Patrick and his team were fine. They spun up a few Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus instances, connected their microservices, and focused on shipping code. But as Cosnos Bank’s user base grew from 10,000 to 1 million, the cracks started to show.

Visibility was zero: “Do we have any test databases running in production projects?” No one knew.

Security was keeping them up at night: “Are all our instances encrypted? Did someone leave a public IP open?”

Performance was a guessing game: “Why is the transaction service slow? Is it the code or the query?”

Patrick wasn’t coding anymore; he was fire-fighting. He needed a DBA, but the hiring freeze meant help wasn’t coming.

Then, he discovered Google Cloud’s Database Center.

The “Single Pane of Glass” Moment

Patrick opened the Google Cloud Console and navigated to the Database Center. For the first time, he saw his entire “fleet” — a mix of Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, AlloyDB, and even a few self-managed PostgreSQL instances on Compute Engine — in one unified dashboard.

It wasn’t just a list of servers; it was a health check.

Cosnos Bank Fleet Status:

Availability: 98% (2 instances at risk)
Security: 3 High-Priority Issues
Cost: 15% Potential Savings

“It’s like having a DBA audit my entire infrastructure overnight,” Patrick realized.

Scenario 1: The Security Audit (Gemini chat to the Rescue)

In banking, security isn’t optional. A compliance audit was looming, and Patrick was terrified of “drift” — the gradual divergence of database configs from security best practices.

Instead of manually checking 50+ database flags, Patrick used the Gemini chatbox right inside the Database Center.

Patrick: “Show me all databases with public IPs enabled.”

Gemini: “There are 209 database instances with public IPs enabled, including marketing-roi, finance-1–8, finance-4–6, and more.”

Within seconds, Patrick identified that a junior dev had accidentally exposed a test database. But Database Center didn’t just flag it; it offered a Security Posture recommendation to enforce “Private Service Connect” across the fleet, preventing this from happening again.

Scenario 2: The Performance Bottleneck

A week later, the dreaded alert came in: High Latency on the Payments Service.

In the old days, Patrick would have grepped through logs for hours. Today, he checked the Performance & Capacity section of Database Center.

The dashboard flagged a specific Cloud SQL instance running hot. It didn’t just say “High CPU”; it gave a Query Insight.

Issue: Missing Index on transaction_id.
Impact: High Read Latency.
Recommendation: CREATE INDEX idx_txn_id ON transactions(transaction_id);

It was an intelligent recommendation that a seasoned DBA would make. Patrick applied the index, and latency dropped by 80% instantly.

Scenario 3: The Cost Savior

At the end of the quarter, the CFO asked Patrick to trim the cloud bill. Patrick opened the Cost view in Database Center.

The tool highlighted “Idle Resources” — three development databases that hadn’t received a single query in 30 days. It also pointed out “Over-provisioned Instances,” showing that their main reporting DB was using only 5% of its allocated CPU.

With a few clicks, Patrick shut down the zombies and rightsized the reporting DB, saving Cosnos Bank roughly 20% on their monthly database bill.

Why Database Center is the Developer’s Best Friend

For organizations like Cosnos Bank, the lack of a DBA used to be a liability. With Google Cloud Database Center, it became an opportunity to empower developers.

Here is how it bridges the gap:

Fleet-Wide Visibility: You stop managing individual “servers” and start managing a “fleet.” whether it’s 5 databases or 5,000.

Proactive Health: It doesn’t wait for you to ask. It pushes alerts about backup failures, security risks, and capacity limits before they become outages.

AI-Assisted Management: With Gemini, you can “chat” with your infrastructure, making complex questions (“Which DBs are not compliant with ISO 27001?”) simple to answer.

The Result for Patrick?

Patrick is back to doing what he loves: writing code and building features for Cosnos Bank. He still doesn’t have a DBA title, but with Database Center, he has the superpowers of one.

🚀 Next Step for You

Are you running blind on your database health? Go to your Google Cloud Console and search for “Database Center” today. Even if you only have a handful of Cloud SQL instances, the “Security” and “Cost” tabs alone might save you your next weekend.

Cloud SQL is a proven foundation for fully managed databases, offering production-ready MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server database engines without the operational headache. With Cloud SQL, there’s no need to worry about patches, backups, and scaling limits — just connect your app and start building.

Today, we’re announcing new free trial instances designed to help you experience the power of Cloud SQL for MySQL and PostgreSQL, with no upfront commitment. Whether you're a seasoned Google Cloud developer or new to the platform, this 30-day free trial allows you to explore, test, and truly understand the value Cloud SQL brings to your database needs.

There are two editions of Cloud SQL currently available:

Cloud SQL Enterprise Plus edition: Designed for mission-critical applications, providing the highest performance and availability with a 99.99% SLA (including maintenance). It features near-zero downtime for planned maintenance, significant performance boosts through Data Cache (using local SSD), and enhanced write throughput.

Cloud SQL Enterprise edition: Suitable for most business applications, offering high availability and managed maintenance with a 99.95% SLA. It offers all the core capabilities of Cloud SQL, striking a good balance of performance, availability, and cost.

Cloud SQL Free Trial Instance ‘Get Started’ Page

Why a dedicated Cloud SQL free trial?

You might be familiar with the standard $300 Google Cloud free trial for new users. While that's a fantastic starting point, customers have been asking us for a more specialized offering. They want a dedicated environment to test the full power of Cloud SQL, especially enterprise-grade configurations for Performance, High Availability (HA), and Data Cache. This new trial is our answer.

This trial provides a significantly enhanced experience for customers developing applications on top of Cloud SQL, allowing you to:

Experience enterprise-grade features: Test critical functionality like High Availability and Data Cache, both essential to robust and performant database operations.

Onboard new users: As a developer, get hands-on with Cloud SQL without the usual hurdle of getting expense approvals for running tests.

Perform preliminary performance testing: Evaluate Cloud SQL's performance for your specific workloads, ensuring it meets your demands.

This new Cloud SQL free trial is designed for a wide range of users:

Existing Google Cloud customers: If you're already using other Google Cloud products, but haven't explored Cloud SQL, this is your chance!

New Google Cloud users: Complementing the existing standard $300 trial, this offers a deeper dive into Cloud SQL's capabilities.

What's included in the 30-day free trial?

We want you to get a comprehensive understanding of Cloud SQL's key value pillars: price-performance, high availability, connectivity, security, observability, ease of manageability, and open-source compatibility. Your free trial instance will be configured to help you explore all of these areas, based on the following database instance:

When you’re ready to move your workload to production, upgrading to a paid instance is a simple [one-click upgrade](https://cloud.google.com/sql/docs/postgres/upgrade-cloud-sql-instance-to-enterprise-plus-in-place), at any time during the trial.

Not ready to upgrade quite yet? At the end of the 30-day free trial, we automatically suspend your free trial resources, keeping the instance in a "stopped" state for an additional 90 days, at no additional charge. This should give you ample time to upgrade and continue without interruption.

 Ready to get started?

Ready to unlock the full potential of your data with Cloud SQL? Creating your free trial instance is easy. If you’re new to Google Cloud, just sign up for an account and follow the instructions to create your Cloud SQL free trial instance.
