How to build a community for Side Project?

One of the most proven and working ideas of how can a side project grow traffic is to build a project community.

A community can be built on top of platforms like Discord, Twitter, or Projectium and should be a group of people sharing ideas that will make the project grow & develop (feedback, insights, opinion).

The best way to grow it is to scale it group-by-group:

“Friends & Followers” - 40–100 members

“Target users & Early adopters” - 100–600 members

“Thematic audience” - 600–4000 members

…and a few other groups that can scale your community to 25K members.

Same but in details read here.

In order to reach out to people you have to:

Pack your idea (elevator pitch / oneliner)

Define key values

Define your target audience

Reach out to people using websites like Reddit, IndieHackers, Projectium, or Twitter.

Building a community is very hard, but it will give you active users & retention. That’s why you should invest time into learning more about how project can build a community and start growing it as soon as possible.

From author: A few your years ago I had my own Side Project - A 3D Engine framework and I invested a lot of time to get noticed by other developers. A year later, with 5.5K stars on this project I decided to write a note and share some thoughts that can help.

If you have just decided to begin your first startup journey — then you probably know nothing about startups. But no worries, the good thing about startups is that you will learn a lot. 82% of early-stage founders say they have to operate in areas they had almost no experience in before. For example, if you are a [former] Software Engineer (which is very common for early Tech startups), you are going to be involved in the design, marketing, management, sales, and even finance processes.

Hey, Dev community!

A lot of open source developers are looking for contributors to help their projects grow & succeed. I know that because I was one of them, an owner of a repository with 5500+ stars on a Github, but that was a long path. I've met other open source developers with their young projects that are focused on solving your problems.

That's what our mission is - to help young projects receive feedback, find contributors & get mentorship.

If you feel like you have something to share, or just want to become a part of our community to follow recent updates - welcome! Join us: https://discord.gg/nh33HqubJM

Now we have a growing community of 300+ open source founders & technical experts, would love to see you with us

We made a place to promote github projects & find contributors

3 Years ago I questioned myself - "I have a cool Github project (it was a 3D graphics lib). How can I promote it & find collaborators?".

The thing is - Github is so nice, but it it's hard to find contributors there until you spend a lot of time. So I did.

Recently my group of friends from Github asked me if I want to participate in development of a HUGE project for making Product community yet a bit more social & interactive (I mean those cool visualizations)

Right now we already have a rough MVP - Projectium that is growing fast, but we need your projects to test it & improve UX. Not everyone will probably find it interesting - but if you have a project, it is worth checking it out
