My Learnings from Today's Expert Session: Getting Started with MongoDB

Today, I attended an insightful expert session on MongoDB and the first steps to start working with it as a developer. Here’s a summary of what I did and learned.

1. Creating a Dev.to Account

The session began by encouraging us to document our journey as developers. So, the first step was creating a Dev.to account. Dev.to is a vibrant platform where developers share knowledge, tutorials, and experiences. Creating an account was straightforward — just sign up with GitHub, Google, or email.

*2.Installing MongoDB Compass

Next, we moved on to MongoDB Compass, the GUI for MongoDB that makes database management visual and user-friendly. Installing it was simple:

I downloaded the installer from the official MongoDB website
Followed the installation prompts for my OS.
Once installed, the interface was clean and intuitive.

3.Creating an Account in MongoDB Atlas

After getting familiar with MongoDB Compass, the expert session introduced MongoDB Atlas, MongoDB’s cloud-based database platform. Atlas allows you to host databases online, making it easier to connect your apps from anywhere.

Here’s what I did to get started:

Signing Up: I visited the MongoDB Atlas website
and signed up using my email. You can also use a Google or GitHub account.

Setting Up a Cluster: Once signed in, I created a free-tier cluster. Atlas provides an easy wizard that guides you through naming your cluster and selecting your preferred cloud provider and region.
