What I’m Actively Doing to Prepare for a Remote Career

Preparing for remote work isn’t something that happens overnight.
At least, it hasn’t been that way for me.

Right now, my focus isn’t on chasing every opportunity — it’s on building a solid foundation.

Here’s what I’m actively working on:

Writing consistently to clarify my thinking and document my journey

Strengthening fundamentals instead of jumping between tools

Becoming more intentional about how I communicate my work

Building visibility, even when things aren’t “perfect” yet

Allowing myself to move forward at a sustainable pace

I don’t have everything figured out.
But I’m learning that preparation is less about speed and more about direction.

And for now, this direction feels right.

What I Didn’t Expect When Starting Over

Starting over is never easy.

Starting over again is something else entirely.

I thought this time would be simpler.
More experience, clearer priorities, fewer mistakes.

But what I didn’t expect was how many challenges had nothing to do with code.

Paperwork.
Waiting.
Uncertainty.
Decisions that seem small but carry real weight.

At the same time, life doesn’t pause.
I’m still working, learning, building, and trying to stay consistent — even when stability feels far away.

Some days, progress looks like shipping features or solving technical problems.
Other days, it looks like sending one important email or making a difficult decision.

I’m slowly learning that progress doesn’t always look impressive.
Sometimes, staying in the game is already enough.

If you’re starting over — in your career, in a new country, or in life —
you’re not behind.

You’re building something new.
And that counts.
Thanks for reading 🤍

From Local Job to Remote Opportunities: My Next Career Goal

Why I’m Actively Preparing for Remote Work

After publishing my first post on DEV, I realized how important it is for me to be intentional about my next career steps.

I currently live in Austria and work in software development, but my next big goal is clear:
building a stable remote career alongside my current job.

 Why remote work?

Flexibility and better work-life balance

More international opportunities

The ability to grow without being limited by location

 My current focus

Right now, I’m focusing on:

Strengthening my technical foundation

Writing more about my journey and learnings

Connecting with others who work remotely or are transitioning

This is just the beginning, and I plan to share:

What I learn

Mistakes I make

Tools and resources I find useful

If you’ve gone through a similar transition — or are planning one — I’d love to hear from you 😊

Rebuilding My Career: Life, Remote Work, and Software Development in Austria

Hi DEV community 👋

I’m Nahid, a software developer currently living in Austria 🇦🇹.

After several years of working as a full-stack developer, I’m now in a new chapter of life — balancing software development, remote work, and motherhood. This transition made me rethink how I work, learn, and grow professionally.

I’m especially interested in:

Remote-friendly development roles

Sustainable career growth (not burnout-driven)

Sharing real-world experiences, not just perfect tutorials

Learning from the DEV community and giving back where I can

I joined DEV to connect with other developers who care about meaningful work, flexibility, and continuous learning.

Looking forward to learning from you all — and hopefully sharing some useful experiences along the way 😊
