Introduction:

I'm Saeed, a Senior Software Engineer from Pakistan. My journey into the world of software development started in around 2016. It was good.

I started with learning C-language. Later on I started learning JavaScript and React. After that, landed a job as an engineer at one of the local food-tech startups.

My Journey with DEV:

I started writing on DEV in the end of 2019. When I started writing here, I didn't realize that this platform would play such a big role in my life and will totally change it.

Before writing on DEV, fewer people in the community knew me but after starting here, I started getting recognition in the local community.

I remember when in one of the local meetups, many fellow community members reached out to me themselves telling me that they follow my posts on DEV and really like them.

Professional life after DEV:

I was already working in a company so continued working there. Some days later, switched my company due to some reasons.

After some months, I lost my new job due to downsizing. COVID had just hit and companies were laying off their employees.

What's more fascinating than this is that I got my next job in under 10 days!!!

All due to my connections that I built through my technical writing on DEV and recognition due to it.

I also started writing on various platforms especially LinkedIn after this and got around 13k followers there.

What I'm doing now?

These days, I'm working as a boot camp instructor. Alongside that, I'm learning web3 and blockchain. Also, I do post tips and content related for engineers and I'm focused on helping them to be a better versions of themselves.

I'm feeling really accomplished and happy on achieving this milestone. Although since a while I haven't been that active here but still it seems a great achievement.

📁 Have a good portfolio:

Work on having some good projects in your portfolio, it will add value to your profile overall

Join software communities around you. It'll help you network with people, which even may help you land a job!

🔗 Build meaningful connections:

Stay humble and help others. It'll help you build meaningful and long-lasting connections.

Yeah!

ReactJS v17.0 is out with no new features.

The React team wrote on their official blog:

"The React 17 release is unusual because it doesn’t add any new developer-facing features. Instead, this release is primarily focused on making it easier to upgrade React itself.

We’re actively working on the new React features, but they’re not a part of this release. The React 17 release is a key part of our strategy to roll them out without leaving anyone behind.

In particular, React 17 is a “stepping stone” release that makes it safer to embed a tree managed by one version of React inside a tree managed by a different version of React."

◉ Identify the patterns from data

◉ Let the data speak

◉ Don't force data to cry

◉ Spend most of your time in EDA, preprocessing and feature engineering

◉ Choose the tech stack with which you are more familiar

◉ Try to involve people with domain expertise.

◉ Visualize your data. It helps a lot in understanding the patterns.

◉ Use statistical inference to understand the underlying distributions

◉ Initially solve what is possible

◉ Do market research

◉ See what other data scientists are doing in the same domain

How to rename your master branch to something else

Well, we all might have heard that GitHub will remove the master naming convention for default branch.

There are many people who might be looking to rename their branch to something more clearer and better.

First of all let's understand what a master branch is?

In Git, "master" is a naming convention for a branch. After cloning (downloading) a project from a remote server, the resulting local repository has a single local branch: the so-called "master" branch. This means that "master" can be seen as a repository's "default" branch.

Why we are doing this?

The master-slave relationship in technology usually refers to a system where one - the master - controls other copies, or processes.

The years-old campaign to replace such terms has been given fresh impetus amid the resurgence of Black Lives Matter protests in the United States.

Mr Friedman's announcement came in a Twitter reply to Google Chrome developer Una Kravets, who said she would be happy to rename the "master" branch of the project to "main".

"If it prevents even a single black person from feeling more isolated in the tech community, feels like a no-brainer to me," she wrote. (Excerpt from BBC Report)

What are potential alternate names for master branch?

Alternate names can be:

main
edge
release
prod
production
live
default
head
primary
top

How to rename master branch to some other name?

Let's name our master branch to release

i. Checkout your master branch

git checkout master

ii. Create your release branch and switch to it

git branch release
git checkout release

iii. Push that to the server

git push origin release

iv. Delete the master branch reference on the server

git push origin :master

v. Delete the local master branch

git branch -d master

Humble beginnings

It was September 2019, when I discovered DEV while searching for a solution online. Since then, I have progressed from a not-so-popular writer to the one whose posts have been read by thousands.

I am Saeed Ahmad. I am a Full Stack Developer. I have been working in the Software Industry for around 3 years. Primarily, my main focus is on frontend i.e ReactJS and React Native.
