      <title>I built a text-first browser idle game — and it unexpectedly found players in 33+ countries</title>

      <description>&lt;p&gt;When I started building Run4ever, I didn’t plan to make a typical idle game.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I wanted something:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Playable instantly in a browser&lt;br&gt;
Persistent over time&lt;br&gt;
Competitive, but calm&lt;br&gt;
Lightweight and text-first&lt;br&gt;
Designed for long-term progression, not short sessions&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The result is Run4ever — a browser-based progression game where players create runners, get badges, accumulate distance automatically, gain experience, earn real rewards based on distance and XP, and climb global leader boards.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;No installs. No heavy graphics. Just long-term progress ticking forward.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;🏃‍♂️ What the game actually does&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Players:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Create runners (3 different types for different game plays)&lt;br&gt;
Start runs of different duration (pro version)&lt;br&gt;
Accumulate kilometers/miles automatically&lt;br&gt;
Earn rewards&lt;br&gt;
Use boosters on runners&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Runners:&lt;br&gt;
Win badges&lt;br&gt;
Compete globally on leader boards&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Everything happens asynchronously. You don’t need to keep the tab open — progress continues on the server.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;🚀 Unexpected traction&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I launched a public beta quietly.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Then I posted the game on itch.io.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In less than 24 hours:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;30+ new players joined&lt;br&gt;
Players from 15+ countries&lt;br&gt;
Zero paid marketing&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A few weeks later:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;100+ players&lt;br&gt;
33+ countries&lt;br&gt;
Over 1 million kilometers run&lt;br&gt;
First paying Pro player&lt;br&gt;
Weekly runner creation nearing rule limits&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;All from organic discovery.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;It confirmed something interesting:&lt;br&gt;
There’s still space for text-first, slow-burn, minimalist browser games.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;🔧 Current status&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Run4ever is still in public beta.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I’m actively:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Fixing bugs discovered by new users&lt;br&gt;
Adding some missing translations (multi-language UI)&lt;br&gt;
Adding new features&lt;br&gt;
Checking progression and game dynamics&lt;br&gt;
Gathering player feedback&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The beta now runs until either 500 players, or June 6th, whichever comes first&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;💡 Why I’m sharing this&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Most indie dev posts focus on art-heavy or real-time games.&lt;br&gt;
But there’s a quiet niche of:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Idle games&lt;br&gt;
Incremental games&lt;br&gt;
Text-first simulations&lt;br&gt;
Long-term persistent worlds&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;And they can absolutely work — even with a solo dev, small budget, and simple tech stack.&lt;/p&gt;
