Today's adventure was on replicating the vscode sidebar functionality. I got stuck on how to leave the current tab open when a button is pressed. I read an article about how to use a map to store the state of the side bar that was particularly helpful.

Storing partial HTML elements in separate files?

As a learning experience, I've been working on a side bar for a website I am creating with just HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

I want to display a different side menu depending on what icon the user clicks on. This morning I added the hover highlighting and the click functionality to expand the side bar. However I want to render some new
elements to the space that the side bar creates.

What is the best practice in this case? My non-webdev instincts tell me to separate out the html into different files for readability.

welcome folks 😀,

I decided it was long overdue for me to learn some front end skills. Being educated in computer engineering I learned many things about opperating systems, compilers, and computer architecture.

However surprisingly little about webdev. For the next few weeks I intend to self teach some of the basics of webdev (particularly frontend).

This year is the year to confidently say "Yes I can build you a website"
