Apple Event Recap

Hello fellow tech nerds, I know this recap is very late, but for those of you who didn't hear, Apple held their first event of the year on the 8th of March. This event was a hardware focused event and therefore no software was unveiled.

The first announcements of the event were about Apple TV. Apple just showcased their exclusive movies and exclusive streaming of baseball. Then they moved on to their mid-year refresh of the iPhone lineup. They released two new colours for the regular and pro lineup. The iPhone 13 in 'Green' and the iPhone 13 Pro in 'Alpine Green'.

Next Apple announced a refresh to the iPhone SE. Apple entered this budget category a couple years ago, and I think they did a fantastic job with their iPhone SE (2nd Generation). From the chip to the camera. The only problem this iPhone SE had was the battery life. You would be lucky to be getting 4 hours of screentime on that phone. This year Apple included their flagship level chip and made improvements to the battery and build quality. Now the iPhone SE is a full glass phone. On paper, this phone looks like an amazing budget phone that will get many software updates to come. But we will have to wait for the reviews to start rolling out. Note: apple did bump the price up by $29 USD from $399 to $429.

Now, the next products that Apple unveiled were the real meat of the presentation. They introduced a new chip, M1 Ultra. Essentially this chip is two M1 Maxes fused together using what they called 'Ultra Fusion'. This new chip gives you 20 CPU cores and 64 GPU cores with 128 GB of unified memory. Now this begs the question, what device is going to use this chip? The answer to that is Mac Studio. A new desktop computer for studios and professionals. With the Mac Studio, they also unveiled a Studio Monitor. This studio monitor packs in a 5K Retina display, P3 colour, 12MP Ultra Wide camera, High-fidelity six-speaker system, studio quality mics and an A13 Bionic Chip. With the new addition of this A13 chip, this monitor on paper is more powerful than most phones on the market right now.

While all this does sound good, Apple is going to charge you from $1599 USD for the Studio display and $1999 USD for the Mac Studio. For all this Mac does pack in, this price seems somewhat okay. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Thanks for reading!

Is Learning Sass Worthwhile?

Greetings people of the Dev Community! It has been a while since I last posted on this blog, and to be honest not much has changed.

I was working on a small project with my friend, that required a lot of styling to be done in CSS, and not all of it could be classless. Then I was met with a developers worst nightmare, a freakishly long CSS file that encased all sorts of
.classes
and
#ids
. Even though I had made all the class names, they were scattered throughout the file and there was no sense of organisation. Additionally, the CSS variables I had created were not organised either.

So, after living through that nightmare, I came across Sass. I had known about Sass for a while, but had been putting off learning it. I thought it would be something that is too similar to CSS, but with a couple of short YouTube tutorials and some help from w3 Schools, I was an expert. Okay, maybe not expert, but I can make my way around Sass.

Sass uses most of the same syntax as CSS and is therefore easy to learn if you have some experience with CSS. Sass is an extension for CSS, and it reduces the repetition caused by CSS, which is why many choose to use it. Stylesheets can sometimes get very long, and CSS does not have much to offer in terms of shortening them or making them easier to read through. Sass adds features like variables, nested rules, mixins, imports, inheritance and built-in functions, which are all things that CSS does not have.

Now, I'm not going to give you a whole tutorial here, but you can very easily learn the basics of Sass in just a couple of minutes. I'll leave some links for some quick learning down below.

Thanks for reading.

Web Development Tools Part 2

More Web Development Tools!
Hello Friends 👋🏾,
Today I want to share with you some more helpful web development tools. I have been a 'web developer' for a few months now. I would not consider myself a pro but I am definitely not a beginner.

Ray.so -
Ray.so allows you to create beautiful images of your code. It has different background colour options, auto formatting, different padding sizes and supports fifty two different coding languages. It also has a nifty feature that automatically detects

Meta Tags -
Meta Tags does exactly what it's name says. It gives you meta tags. Usually when you send a website to someone it will look like this (Picture 1), but with Meta Tags it will look like this (Picture 2). The website is functional and very easy to use. It automatically shows you previews of what your website will look like on Google, Discord, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest and Slack.

Picture 1:

Picture 2:

grapecss -
grapecss is a stylesheet created by me. As the name suggests grapecss has an overall purple theme. grapecss supports elements such as all the headings, paragraphs, buttons, checkboxes, images, iframes, custom scrollbars, inputs and much more.

Part three maybe coming soon... I hope you guys liked The Grapey Blog. If you did please share it to your friends and family. Have a great day!

Hello Friends 👋🏾,
Today I want to share with you some helpful web development tools. I have been a 'web developer' for a few months now. I would not consider myself a pro but I am definitely not a beginner.

Glitch.com -
Glitch is the perfect place to code and host a website for free. Glitch supports languages such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, Python, PHP and more. One of my personal favourite features in Glitch is how when coding, the program automatically finishes off tags and brackets for you. Glitch also has a fantastic format button to make your code look sexy. You even get a free subdomain (yourtitle.glitch.me).

Eggradients -
Eggradients is an awesome place to find beautiful gradients for backgrounds and texts. You can easily browse through hundreds of eggs and find the one you like. Then, you can press the 'copy CSS' button and paste it in to your file.

Screely -
Screely is a browser mockup tool. What you do is take a screenshot and then upload it to screely. it then takes your image and puts it inside a window. The thing that sets screely aside from other browser mockup tools is its customisability. You can change light and dark mode, resize, change window type and change the icons. Infact, all of the screenshots you see are made by screely.

Part Two coming soon
