llms.txt

ネイティブ UI(自動翻訳ボタンではない)

FAQ schema

¥31,580 (月額×12 比 20% OFF)

Android (Play Store): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cheonmyeongdang.app

Cheonmyeongdang v1.5.0 — Korean Saju AI Goes Global (9 languages, Android + Web)

Cheonmyeongdang v1.5.0 just shipped to Google Play Store Production — Korean Saju AI in 9 languages, with five product levers I want to break down for anyone building a global indie SaaS.

 What is Cheonmyeongdang?

Cheonmyeongdang (천명당) is a Korean Saju (사주) AI app. Saju is East Asia's 4-pillar fortune-telling system — the same conceptual root as Chinese BaZi (八字), but with the Korean interpretive tradition. It uses your birth year/month/day/hour to compute a chart of Five Elements (오행) and Ten Gods (십신), then reads personality, career, relationships, and timing.

We just shipped v1.5.0, and it's now live on the Play Store Production track for global distribution.

 v1.5.0 — Five levers shipped

llms.txt
indexing — LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) can now discover and reason about Cheonmyeongdang's content structure directly.

FAQ schema in 9 languages — structured data markup (JSON-LD) for every locale, so Google rich results pick up Saju FAQs natively.

Comparison page — head-to-head against Co-Star and other astrology apps, focused on what Korean Saju does differently (BaZi 4 pillars vs Western horoscope).

Outcome-based pricing — instead of feature gating, premium is sold on outcomes: "Know your career path in 2026", "Find your compatibility partner", etc.

Hub-and-Spoke YouTube — long-form pillar videos on @kunstudiokr feed shorts on @taxnbenefitskr and @wealthblueprint2, all linking back to sajuapp.app + Play Store.

Why 9 languages, not just Korean?

Korea is a 50M market. The diaspora + interest from Japan, Greater China, Spanish-speaking Latin America, and Western Europe is multiples larger. Korean culture (K-pop, K-drama, K-content) gives Saju a built-in pull abroad that pure-Korean apps don't capture.

So Cheonmyeongdang ships in: Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese.

Every locale gets:

Native UI (not auto-translated buttons)

FAQ schema for local SEO

Localized prompt templates so the AI reads naturally in that language

Local pricing display

 Pricing — outcome-based, not feature-gated

Tier

Price (USD)

Best for

Daily pass

$1.50

One-time deep reading

Monthly

$29.90

Active users, ongoing daily fortune

Annual

$287.04 (20% off vs monthly × 12)

Committed users

Basic Saju reading (4 pillars, Five Elements, Ten Gods) is free, unlimited, in all 9 languages.

 Try it now

Web (all 9 languages): https://sajuapp.app

Android (Play Store): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cheonmyeongdang.app

 What's next

iOS App Store submission (in queue)

Korean Pay Korean PG integration for KRW pricing inside Korea

More YouTube long-form on @kunstudiokr explaining Saju concepts for non-Korean audiences

If you're building a global indie SaaS, the takeaway from this launch: stop English-first thinking, ship the long-tail languages on day one, and let outcome-based pricing do the heavy lifting on conversion.

Cheers from Seoul.

llms.txt

Hub-and-Spoke YouTube — @kunstudiokr long-form pillar → @taxnbenefitskr / @wealthblueprint2 쇼츠 feed, 모두 sajuapp.app + Play Store 링크

Native UI (자동 번역 버튼 X)

로컬 SEO용 FAQ schema

Android (Play Store): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cheonmyeongdang.app

The K-Beauty Boom Isn't Slowing Down

If you are planning a Seoul trip in 2026, skincare shopping is probably already on your list. Here is why everyone is loading their suitcases with Korean cosmetics: South Korea's cosmetics exports hit a record US$11.43 billion in 2025, up 12.3% year-over-year, with skin care alone accounting for nearly 75% of that total (Personal Care Insights, 2025). The global K-beauty market itself jumped from US$14.61 billion in 2024 to US$16.26 billion in 2025, and analysts project an 11.3% CAGR through 2033.

In plain English: K-beauty is no longer a niche trend. It is a mainstream global category. And Seoul is still the cheapest, most variety-rich place on Earth to buy it.

But here is the thing nobody tells you before you fly into Incheon: the same product can have wildly different prices depending on where in Seoul you buy it. Olive Young, duty-free shops, and Myeong-dong flagship stores are not interchangeable. Each one serves a different purpose, and if you mix them up you will overspend by 30-40%.

This guide breaks down exactly where to buy what, with real prices, real timing tips, and the affiliate-friendly online option if you cannot fly to Seoul this year.

The Three Main Shopping Channels in Seoul

 1. Olive Young — Mid-Range Powerhouse

Olive Young is the H&M of Korean skincare. It carries hundreds of mid-priced brands, runs aggressive monthly sales, and has English-speaking staff in tourist-heavy locations (Myeong-dong, Hongdae, Gangnam Station). This is where you stock up on the viral TikTok brands that travel influencers swear by.

Brands worth grabbing here:

VT Cosmetics — Reedle Shot (microneedle serum, the one that exploded on TikTok)

Anua — Heartleaf 77 cleansing oil, the cult favorite for oily skin

Numbuzin — No. 3 toner serum, viral for "glass skin" routines

Skin1004 — Madagascar Centella ampoule, holy grail for irritated skin

Beauty of Joseon — Glow Serum and Relief Sun, beloved by Western dermatologists

TIRTIR — Mask Fit Red Cushion, the foundation that broke the internet in 2024-2025

Price range: ₩8,000 - ₩35,000 per item (US$6 - US$26)

Best for: Skincare actives, viral products, gifts under US$30, sunscreen hauls.

 2. Duty-Free — Premium Tier

If your shopping list includes Sulwhasoo, The History of Whoo, Su:m37, or imported luxury brands like La Mer and SK-II, duty-free is non-negotiable. Korean department-store prices for these brands are aggressively high, but duty-free strips out VAT plus offers airline-partner discounts on top.

Top duty-free locations:

Lotte Duty Free Myeong-dong (downtown, pre-trip pickup at airport)

Shinsegae Duty Free Myeong-dong (often runs the deepest brand-event discounts)

Shilla Duty Free (Jangchung-dong, best for Sulwhasoo events)

Incheon Airport Duty Free (departure day only, smaller stock)

Premium brands to target:

Sulwhasoo — First Care Activating Serum, Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream

The History of Whoo — Bichup Self-Generating Anti-Aging Essence

Su:m37 — Secret Essence (often called "Korean SK-II")

OHUI — The First Geniture Ampoule Advanced

Hera — Black Cushion (a celebrity-favorite base)

Price range: ₩70,000 - ₩400,000 per item (US$52 - US$295)

Best for: Anti-aging luxury, gift sets, anything above US$50. Always pre-order online before your trip — the in-store coupon stack is much smaller than what is available on the duty-free app.

 3. Myeong-dong Brand Flagship Stores — The Experience Tier

Myeong-dong is the Times Square of Korean beauty. Every major brand has a flagship store within a 10-minute walk: Innisfree, Etude House, Laneige, Missha, Nature Republic, Tony Moly, 3CE, and dozens more. You can sample everything, get free makeup demos, and watch staff demonstrate products on real skin.

Important reality check: Flagship store prices are usually the same as Olive Young or even slightly higher, but they offer:

Larger product testers and skin consultations

Brand-exclusive limited editions (especially Innisfree and Laneige)

Free gift events (often a 10-piece sample bag with any US$30 purchase)

A real brand experience for content creators

If you are filming a Seoul vlog or buying a gift that needs to feel special, flagship is worth the small premium. If you just want product, go to Olive Young across the street.

Price Comparison Table: Top Products by Channel

Product

Olive Young

Duty-Free

Myeong-dong Flagship

Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun (50ml)

₩12,000 / US$8.90

Not stocked

Not stocked

Anua Heartleaf Cleansing Oil (200ml)

₩22,000 / US$16.30

Not stocked

Not stocked

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (20g)

₩22,000 / US$16.30

₩17,000 / US$12.60

₩22,000 / US$16.30

Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum (80ml)

₩30,000 / US$22

₩23,000 / US$17

₩30,000 / US$22

Sulwhasoo First Care Serum (90ml)

Not stocked

₩98,000 / US$72

₩135,000 / US$100

Whoo Bichup Self-Generating Essence (50ml)

Not stocked

₩185,000 / US$137

₩260,000 / US$192

Su:m37 Secret Essence (80ml)

Not stocked

₩148,000 / US$110

₩210,000 / US$156

Takeaway: For mid-tier brands, Olive Young and Myeong-dong are roughly identical, but Olive Young runs deeper monthly discounts. For luxury, duty-free is 25-35% cheaper than the same brand's flagship store. Never buy Sulwhasoo or Whoo at the regular store — you are paying the full Korean retail markup.

Olive Young Monthly Sale: The 1-7 Rule

Olive Young runs a major sale every month from the 1st to the 7th. This is the single most important piece of timing knowledge for K-beauty shoppers.

What happens during the 1-7 sale:

30-50% off across hundreds of SKUs

Buy-one-get-one on toners, sunscreens, and sheet masks

Tourist-exclusive 10% extra discount with passport (stacks with sale)

Free express shipping for online orders above ₩30,000

Pro tip: If your trip dates are flexible, fly in on the 1st of any month. If they are not, place your online order (Olive Young Global) during the 1-7 window even if you are already in Korea — you can sometimes get a better price than in-store, especially on bulk packs.

The worst time to shop is the 25th-31st of any month, when stock is thin and there are no promotions running.

 Tax Refund + Carry-On Strategy

Here is the part most travel blogs get wrong. Korea has two separate tax refund systems and both apply to skincare:

Immediate tax refund at point of sale — Available at Olive Young and most brand flagships if your single transaction is under ₩300,000 (about US$222). Just show your passport at checkout. You get the VAT (around 10%) deducted instantly.

Airport tax refund — For larger purchases over ₩300,000, the refund happens at Incheon Airport before customs. Bring your passport, the original tax-refund receipt, and the unopened products. Refunds are processed at the Global Tax Free / KT Tourist Refund kiosks in the departure hall.

Carry-on rules:

Liquids over 100ml must go in checked luggage. Most full-size cleansers, toners, and essences fall above this.

Cushion foundations and solid sticks (under 100ml gels) can go in carry-on.

Duty-free purchases from Lotte / Shilla / Shinsegae are sealed in tamper-proof bags and always allowed in carry-on, regardless of size.

If you are buying multiple large bottles, plan your suitcase space accordingly — a single Sulwhasoo gift set is around 1.5kg.

Cannot Fly to Seoul? Buy Online via Olive Young Global

Olive Young launched a proper international shipping service in 2024, and as of 2026 it ships to 150+ countries with English, Japanese, and Chinese checkout. Prices online are roughly identical to in-store, and the 1-7 monthly sale runs on the global site too.

Shop Olive Young Global with the KORLENS discount code:

Olive Young Global — KUNSTUDIO26 discount

Use code KUNSTUDIO26 at checkout for an additional discount on top of any active sale. The Global site stocks all the brands listed above except the luxury houses (those remain duty-free only).

Shipping options:

Standard (DHL eCommerce) — 7-14 days, free above US$60

Express (DHL Express) — 3-5 days, around US$15 flat

K-Packet — 10-21 days, cheapest for small orders

If you are stocking up for a year, the international Olive Young shop is genuinely competitive with flying to Seoul, especially if you cluster orders during the 1-7 sale window. Browse the full K-beauty catalog here.

Bonus: Pair Your Seoul Trip with a Saju Reading

If you are already traveling to Korea for the culture, food, and skincare, consider adding one more uniquely Korean experience: a Saju reading — traditional Korean four-pillars astrology that maps your birth date and time onto your personality and life themes.

Try a free English Saju reading at sajuapp.app — it is a quick way to add a cultural layer to your trip and a fun conversation piece with local friends. Many travelers print their reading and reference it while exploring Bukchon Hanok Village or the palaces.

 TL;DR — Your Seoul K-Beauty Game Plan

Olive Young for viral mid-range brands. Time your visit to the 1st-7th of the month.

Duty-Free (Lotte / Shinsegae / Shilla downtown locations) for Sulwhasoo, Whoo, Su:m37 and anything above US$50.

Myeong-dong flagships for the brand experience, free samples, and content creation.

Olive Young Global with code KUNSTUDIO26 if you cannot fly to Seoul this year.

Always show your passport for the tourist discount. Always.

For more Seoul trip guides — itineraries, food, hidden cafes, and tax-free shopping districts — check KORLENS.app, built for travelers who want the local angle without the language barrier.

Happy shopping, and may your suitcase always fit one more sheet mask.

 TL;DR

In Korean Saju (사주, "Four Pillars of Destiny"), your Day Master (일간, Il-gan) is the single character that represents you. It is one of the 10 Heavenly Stems (천간) — five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water), each split into Yang and Yin. Find yours for free at sajuapp.app, and read on for a plain-language breakdown of all ten — plus what each Day Master can expect in 2026.

This article is a follow-up to my earlier post introducing Cheonmyeongdang, the Korean Saju reading app I built for a global audience.

 What is the Day Master?

Saju is a 1,200-year-old East Asian system that maps the moment of your birth — year, month, day, and hour — to four pillars of two characters each. Each pillar carries a Heavenly Stem (천간, Cheon-gan) on top and an Earthly Branch (지지, Ji-ji) below.

Of the eight characters in your chart, one matters more than the others: the Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar, called the Day Master (일간, Il-gan).

Why is the Day Master so important?

The other seven characters describe your environment — family, career, partner, opportunities, obstacles.

The Day Master describes you: your core temperament, how you naturally engage with the world, and what kind of "fuel" you run on.

A useful mental model: if your full Saju chart is a movie, the Day Master is the protagonist. Everything else is the setting and supporting cast.

In classical Saju texts, this is referred to as 日干為我 ("the Day Stem is the Self"). Every other relationship in the chart — wealth, status, relationships, health — is calculated relative to the Day Master. So if you only learn one thing about your chart, learn this character.

The Five Elements (오행) and Yin/Yang

Before we go through the 10 stems, two quick concepts:

Five Elements (오행, Oh-haeng):

Element

Korean

Hanja

Theme

Wood

목

木

Growth, expansion, planning

Fire

화

火

Energy, expression, passion

Earth

토

土

Stability, mediation, trust

Metal

금

金

Structure, precision, justice

Water

수

水

Adaptability, depth, wisdom

Yin/Yang (음양): Each element exists in a Yang (양, outward, active) and Yin (음, inward, refined) form. So 5 elements × 2 polarities = 10 Heavenly Stems.

This is the entire alphabet of who you are at the most fundamental level.

 All 10 Heavenly Stems Decoded

Each section below covers: the symbol, plain-language personality, classical metaphor, and a 2026 outlook on productivity, relationships, and finances.

Note: 2026 is the Year of Byeong-O (병오년, Yang Fire Horse) in the Saju calendar. The "Yang Fire Horse" energy is dominant, which colors how each Day Master will experience the year. Yang Fire types ride the wave; Yin Water types should pace themselves; everyone else lands somewhere in between.

 1. Yang Wood (甲 갑) — Gap

Classical metaphor: A tall pine tree on a mountain ridge.

Personality: Straightforward, ambitious, sees the long path and starts walking. Yang Wood people are natural leaders who hate stagnation and love big goals. They can be stubborn — once committed, hard to redirect.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: Strong year for launching long-term projects. The Fire energy of 2026 helps you "leaf out" — but watch for burnout in Q3.

Relationships: You attract people who need structure. Don't take on emotional labor that isn't yours.

Finances: Favor compounding plays — real estate, equity, slow-build SaaS — over quick flips.

 2. Yin Wood (乙 을) — Eul

Classical metaphor: A flowering vine that grows by wrapping around supports.

Personality: Adaptable, sociable, persistent in a soft way. Yin Wood people get things done through relationships rather than force. They often look gentle but are surprisingly resilient — a vine can outlast a storm.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: Excellent collaboration year. Your network is your leverage in 2026.

Relationships: High romantic energy. Be selective; you attract more interest than you can manage.

Finances: Side income via partnerships, affiliate work, or community-driven products outperforms solo plays.

 3. Yang Fire (丙 병) — Byeong

Classical metaphor: The midday sun.

Personality: Bright, generous, magnetic, hates being ignored. Yang Fire people are extroverts even when they think they aren't. They give energy to everyone around them and can lead public-facing work brilliantly — but they need real downtime, or they crash.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: This is your year. The 2026 Heavenly Stem is also Yang Fire (병), so your natural rhythm is amplified. Big launches, public speaking, video content — green light.

Relationships: You will be the social hub. Don't burn bridges in moments of excitement.

Finances: Visibility-driven income (creator economy, sales, broadcasting) spikes. Save aggressively — the year after a "you year" tends to cool off.

 4. Yin Fire (丁 정) — Jeong

Classical metaphor: A candle or hearth fire that warms a single room.

Personality: Warm, focused, deeply loyal. Yin Fire people light up small groups rather than crowds. They are often the "quiet expert" — the surgeon, the technical lead, the editor — who isn't loud but is indispensable.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: You will be in demand. Set rates; do not over-deliver out of guilt.

Relationships: Strong year for deepening one or two key relationships rather than expanding your circle.

Finances: Premium expertise pays. Raise your prices once in 2026 — the market is ready.

 5. Yang Earth (戊 무) — Mu

Classical metaphor: A mountain.

Personality: Solid, reliable, slow to anger, slow to move. Yang Earth people are the rocks others lean on. They are excellent at endurance projects but can stay too long in situations (jobs, relationships, cities) that no longer serve them.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: The Fire energy of 2026 supports you (Fire produces Earth, in the cycle of elements). Expect a confidence boost mid-year.

Relationships: Family commitments take focus. Don't let "duty" replace honest communication.

Finances: Favor tangible assets and steady income. Skip speculative trades.

 6. Yin Earth (己 기) — Gi

Classical metaphor: Cultivated soil — a garden bed, a rice paddy.

Personality: Nurturing, practical, deceptively shrewd. Yin Earth people are the operators behind successful teams. They notice everything, manage details masterfully, and are often underestimated until you try to replace them.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: Strong year for operational roles — ops, finance, product management, education.

Relationships: Caretaker fatigue is the risk. Schedule time that's yours alone.

Finances: Boring is beautiful. Index funds, savings ladder, debt paydown.

 7. Yang Metal (庚 경) — Gyeong

Classical metaphor: A sword, an axe, raw ore being forged.

Personality: Decisive, principled, courageous, sometimes blunt. Yang Metal people cut through ambiguity. They thrive in roles that require judgment under pressure: military, law, surgery, founding a company.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: 2026's Fire energy forges Metal — meaning challenge will sharpen you. Expect a hard but transformative year.

Relationships: Soften your edges intentionally. Yang Metal often wins arguments and loses warmth in the process.

Finances: Cut a recurring expense in Q1. The discipline pays compounding dividends.

 8. Yin Metal (辛 신) — Sin

Classical metaphor: A polished jewel, a refined blade, a piece of silver.

Personality: Elegant, exacting, image-aware, perfectionist. Yin Metal people care deeply about craft, beauty, and reputation. They make excellent designers, writers, surgeons, and luxury-brand operators.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: Best year in five years for personal branding and portfolio work. Publish more, polish less.

Relationships: Don't confuse aesthetic compatibility with emotional safety.

Finances: Investments in your own visibility (website, portfolio, equipment) return well.

 9. Yang Water (壬 임) — Im

Classical metaphor: A great river — or the open ocean.

Personality: Strategic, wide-ranging, deceptively patient. Yang Water people see systems and move in long arcs. They are explorers, founders, scholars, and travelers. They get bored before others get started.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: The Fire energy of 2026 opposes Water, which means friction. Choose fewer, larger bets. Don't dilute focus.

Relationships: International or long-distance connections feature heavily.

Finances: Liquidity matters this year. Keep more cash than feels comfortable.

 10. Yin Water (癸 계) — Gye

Classical metaphor: Rain, dew, a quiet spring.

Personality: Intuitive, sensitive, deeply observant. Yin Water people read rooms before others have noticed there's a room. They make exceptional therapists, researchers, novelists, and analysts.

2026 outlook:

Productivity: Pace yourself. The Fire energy of 2026 evaporates Yin Water if you over-extend. Two-thirds of your normal load is wisdom, not weakness.

Relationships: You will give a lot. Make sure you receive too.

Finances: Build a buffer in H1; deploy it strategically in H2.

How to Find Your Day Master (Free)

You only need three pieces of information:

Date of birth

Time of birth (hour and minute, if you know them)

Time zone of birth location

Head to sajuapp.app, enter your details, and your full Four Pillars chart appears in seconds — Day Master prominently displayed. The free reading is enough to identify your Day Master and basic chart structure. Deeper readings (full 10-year cycle, relationship compatibility, business timing) are available on paid tiers:

Daily reading: ₩1,500 (~$1.10)

Monthly subscription: ₩29,900 (~$22) — unlimited readings, all features

Annual subscription: ₩287,040 (~$210, save 20%)

No credit card required for the free chart. The app supports English, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.

Common Misconception: Saju Is Not MBTI or Western Astrology

Three things Saju is not:

1. It is not personality typology like MBTI.
MBTI is a self-report psychological instrument that groups people into 16 types. Saju is a calendar-based system that produces millions of distinct chart configurations from birth time. Two people with the same MBTI rarely share a Saju chart, and vice versa.

2. It is not Western horoscopes ("Sun signs").
Western horoscopes use a 12-sign zodiac based on the sun's apparent position. Saju uses a sexagenary cycle (60 stem-branch combinations) applied across four pillars, producing 60⁴ ≈ 12.96 million possible base configurations before luck cycles are layered in.

3. It is not fortune-telling in the "I will win the lottery" sense.
Classical Saju texts repeatedly emphasize that the chart describes tendencies and seasons, not deterministic events. The Korean phrase often used is 운칠기삼 (운七기三) — "seven parts circumstance, three parts effort" — but effort is the part that moves the needle.

Think of Saju as a high-resolution weather forecast for your life: it tells you whether you're walking into a rainy season or a sunny one, but you still choose what to wear and where to walk.

Lessons from Building a Saju App (Engineering Perspective)

A few things I learned shipping this product as a solo developer:

1. Calendar math is the boss fight.

Saju calculations depend on the traditional solar calendar (24 solar terms, jeolgi 절기), not the Gregorian calendar. Each "Saju month" begins on a specific solar term — not the first of the Gregorian month. Hour pillars rotate on a 12-branch cycle anchored to local solar time (true sun time), not zoning-defined standard time. You need:

A reliable solar-term ephemeris (I use a precomputed table from 1900–2100).

Accurate longitude-based solar time correction.

Lunar/solar calendar conversion (for users who only know lunar birthdays — common in older Korean and Chinese populations).

A single off-by-one minute can change someone's hour pillar, which can change their entire interpretation. The bug surface is unforgiving.

2. Internationalization is more than translation.

The hanja characters (甲乙丙丁...) need to be displayed alongside Korean/Japanese/Chinese readings AND romanized for users who can't read CJK scripts. Tooltips and accessibility labels matter. Right-to-left isn't an issue, but vertical-text rendering is a nice-to-have I haven't shipped yet.

3. Cultural sensitivity beats clever features.

I shipped — and then removed — a feature that analyzed compatibility between two users by name. Saju traditionally requires consent: you don't read someone else's chart without permission. The feature returned, but only when both users authenticate. Small detail, big difference.

4. Skip the K-pop celebrity content.

Easy traffic, real legal risk. Don't analyze public figures' charts without consent — Korea's privacy and personality-rights frameworks are stricter than people assume, and the content is forgettable anyway. Focus on the user's own chart.

5. Trust comes from disclaimers, not despite them.

The app clearly states Saju is a traditional interpretive system, not medical, financial, or psychological advice. Counterintuitively, putting that front and center increased trust and conversions. Users who don't want a clear framing self-select out — which is fine.

 Try Yours

Now you know what to look for. The fastest path:

Open sajuapp.app

Enter your birth date, time, and time zone

Read the Day Master section first — that's your protagonist

Compare to the section above

If your Day Master surprises you, sit with it for a week. The 10 stems aren't compliments or insults — they're shapes. The interesting question isn't "which one am I?" but "given this shape, what am I building this year?"

If you found this useful, the first post in this series — Introducing Cheonmyeongdang: Korean Saju Four Pillars Reading for the World — covers the app itself, the four pillars, and how I'm building it as a solo developer.

More deep dives coming: Earthly Branches, the 10-Year Luck Pillar cycle, and how to read compatibility (without the K-pop gossip).

Thanks for reading.

 TL;DR

I just launched Cheonmyeongdang (sajuapp.app) — a global, plain-language take on Korean Saju (Four Pillars of Destiny), a 1,200-year-old East Asian reading system. Web + Android, 9 languages, transparent pricing, 24h refund. This is the story of how a single developer shipped a globally-localized fortune SaaS, and a tour of the stack and the lessons.

Web: https://sajuapp.app

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cheonmyeongdang.app

 What is Korean Saju?

Saju (사주, 四柱) literally means "Four Pillars." Each pillar is a pair of characters representing a person's year, month, day, and hour of birth, mapped onto the East Asian sexagenary cycle (10 Heavenly Stems × 12 Earthly Branches = 60 combinations). The result is an eight-character (Bazi / 八字) chart that practitioners have used for over 1,200 years to talk about personality, relationships, timing, and life direction.

If you've heard of Bazi in Chinese culture, Saju is the Korean tradition of the same system, with its own schools of interpretation (Jaseop Saju, Shinsal, Yong-shin theory, etc.) and a deep modern literature in Korea.

In the West, the closest cultural analog is Western astrology, but Saju is structurally different:

It uses your lunar/solar birth time mapped to stems and branches, not zodiac signs.

It analyzes five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) flowing through your chart.

It tracks 10-year "Great Luck" (Daewoon) cycles and yearly luck (Sewoon).

For tens of millions of Koreans, asking a Saju master before a big decision — marriage, a career move, a child's name — is still completely normal. And with the global K-culture wave, more and more non-Korean users are curious.

 Why I built this

When I dug into the existing landscape, I found a strange gap:

Korean-only services: Beautiful, deeply traditional, but completely impenetrable if you don't read Korean and don't already know the jargon.

Western "Bazi calculators": Often surface-level, generic, and miss a lot of the structure modern Korean practitioners actually use.

Random astrology apps: Branded as "Eastern" but mostly stitched together from generic horoscope content.

So the bet for Cheonmyeongdang was simple:

Take serious, modern Korean Saju, render the output in plain language, and ship it globally with proper localization and honest pricing.

No mystical voice. No "you are a chosen one." Just: "Here's your chart. Here's what each pillar means. Here's what the next 10 years look like in this tradition."

 The product, in one screen

Each reading produces:

Your Four Pillars chart (year / month / day / hour), with stems and branches and Korean + romanized labels.

Five Elements balance (which of Wood / Fire / Earth / Metal / Water dominate, which are missing).

Day Master interpretation — the central character that anchors the whole reading.

10-year Daewoon cycles with a plain-language summary for each decade.

This year and next year quick read.

Optional deep dives: love compatibility, career direction, name analysis.

Everything is written so a first-time reader can follow along without a glossary tab open.

 Tech stack

This is a one-person product, so every choice was about leverage and avoiding ops time.

Frontend / app shell

Next.js (App Router) for the marketing site, blog, and web app.

Capacitor to wrap the same web codebase into the Android app. One codebase, one design system, two distribution channels.

Hosted on Vercel for instant rollbacks and zero-config previews.

Localization

9 languages at launch: Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Spanish.

Translation pipeline scripted, so adding a new language is a config change, not a refactor.

Region-aware pricing presentation (KRW first for Korean, USD for global routes).

Payments

KG Inicis V2 for domestic Korean cards — table stakes for the Korean market.

PayPal Subscriptions for the global side — recurring billing in dozens of currencies, no Stripe required.

One-time Daily Pass + Monthly subscription + Annual plan, all wired through the same
confirm-payment
endpoint to stay under Vercel's Hobby function limits.

Saju engine

Custom calculation core that handles solar/lunar conversion, true-solar-time correction, and timezone math.

A long table of stem/branch interactions, Yong-shin (favorable element) logic, and Shinsal (special star) flags.

Output passes through a plain-language renderer so the reading doesn't read like a 19th-century manuscript.

Distribution

Web at sajuapp.app.

Android via Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cheonmyeongdang.app

Blog + SEO at sajuapp.app/blog (the canonical for this very post).

 Pricing — transparent on purpose

I wanted no dark patterns, no fake "first reading free" that buries the actual cost. Here is the full price list:

Plan

Price

Notes

Daily Pass

₩1,500

One day of access. No subscription.

Monthly

₩29,900 / mo

3-day free trial, cancel anytime.

Annual

₩287,040 / yr

20% off vs. monthly.

And — important — a 24-hour refund guarantee on any plan. If the reading isn't what you expected, you can refund yourself directly from the account page within 24 hours. No "contact support, wait 5 business days" loop.

For global users, those KRW prices localize to USD / JPY / EUR / VND / THB / IDR / etc. at checkout.

Lessons learned building a one-person global Saju SaaS

Some of these are obvious in retrospect. They were not obvious while I was writing the code.

 1. Localization is a product feature, not a translation task

Shipping 9 languages is not "run the strings through a translator." Korean Saju vocabulary doesn't have a clean 1:1 mapping in most languages. "천간 (Heavenly Stem)" needed a different metaphor for an English reader than a Japanese reader (who already has cultural context for 天干). I ended up writing two layers: a translation layer (literal), and a localization layer (cultural rewording). Skipping the second layer makes you sound like a bad horoscope app, fast.

 2. The web + Android via Capacitor combo is underrated

I considered React Native, Flutter, native Android, and TWA / Bubblewrap. Capacitor + Next.js won because:

One codebase ships to both web and Play Store.

The blog, the marketing pages, and the app share the same components and styles.

Updates to non-native logic don't require a Play Store review.

For a one-person SaaS where the core value is content, not platform-specific UX, this combo is hard to beat.

 3. Payment plumbing is the longest tail

The Saju engine took weeks. Wiring up KG Inicis V2 + PayPal + receipts + refunds + tax flags + subscription lifecycle webhooks + dunning took longer. If you're considering a paid global product as a solo dev, budget more time for payments than for the core feature. PayPal Subscriptions for global recurring revenue removed an enormous category of work compared to chasing Stripe coverage in markets where it isn't fully available.

 4. "AI-generated horoscope" is a race to the bottom

Plenty of competitors are clearly piping prompts at a generic LLM and shipping the output. The market is already saturated with that. I went the opposite direction: a deterministic Saju engine + a writing layer that explains the result in plain language. The product is reproducible: the same birth data produces the same chart, every time. That matters for trust, and it matters for the 1,200-year tradition the system is built on.

 5. Transparent pricing is a marketing channel

When I switched the landing page from "Try free" (with a hidden monthly bill) to a hard table of Daily / Monthly / Annual + a visible 24h refund line, conversion improved and chargebacks dropped. Telling people exactly what they'll be charged before they enter card details is, apparently, a feature.

 6. K-culture is global, but the back-end is still Korean

A Vietnamese user who wants a Saju reading is paying in VND, reading in Vietnamese, and expecting global UX — but the calculation, the names, the lineage of the system are all Korean. I leaned into that. The product is Korean. The presentation is global. That framing is honest, and it's how the K-wave actually works: people are explicitly seeking out Korean things, not generic "Asian-flavored" things.

 Try it

If your friends keep asking about Korean Saju after watching K-dramas, or if you just want to see what the Four Pillars say about you:

Web: https://sajuapp.app

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cheonmyeongdang.app

Daily Pass is ₩1,500 (about $1.10), Monthly is ₩29,900 with a 3-day free trial, Annual is ₩287,040 (20% off). Every plan ships with the same 24-hour refund guarantee.

I'd love feedback from this community in particular — webdev, indie hackers, and SaaS folks. Especially:

Anyone else shipping content-heavy SaaS in 9+ languages — how are you handling cultural localization vs. raw translation?

Anyone else using Capacitor + Next.js to dual-ship web + Android — what's your hot-take after a year?

Anyone in the global fortune / wellness space — what conversion benchmarks are you seeing on transparent pricing vs. hidden trials?

Happy to answer questions about the Saju engine, the payment stack, the localization pipeline, or the one-person workflow that made this shippable.

— Built solo, shipped global. v1.4.9 is live.

Day 1: I shipped Korean Saju AI in 9 languages — story behind 1,500 years of pattern recognition

My grandmother walked into a Korean Saju master's dim shop every Lunar New Year.

She paid roughly $115 for 30 minutes of someone reading 8 characters from her birth chart. Then she'd come home, sit me down, and translate it: "stop chasing the wrong thing in 2026."

It wasn't horoscope nonsense.

 What Korean Saju actually is

Korean Saju (사주, "four pillars") encodes about 1,500 years of pattern recognition into 4 pillars:

Year pillar

Month pillar

Day pillar

Hour pillar

Each pillar = 2 characters. 8 total. Western astrology gets 3 data points (Sun, Moon, Ascendant). Korean Saju gets 8.

That's roughly 60x the resolution.

 Why I built it

70 million Koreans live outside Korea now. K-culture is everywhere — K-pop, K-drama, K-beauty, K-food.

But this specific reading? Still locked behind a 60-year-old man speaking classical hanja.

The Korean diaspora has nowhere to get this in their own language. And the global K-culture wave has nowhere to learn what it actually means.

Day 1 stack (shipped today, May 22)

Korean credit cards LIVE (KG Inicis V2 — all 9 major issuers)

Global PayPal (Visa/Master/Amex/JCB, USD auto-conversion)

9 languages from day one (KO/EN/JP/ZH/PT-BR/ES/ID/VN/HI)

Claude-powered explanations — written so my grandmother AND a middle schooler both get it. No jargon, no mystical fog. Just clear pattern reading.

Pricing: $1.10 Daily Pass / $7.20 Monthly / 50% OFF Annual

6 months of solo building. Today is Day 1.

 What I want feedback on

The 9-language UX — does the explanation hold up in your native language if you grew up between two cultures?

The Claude prompt — should the tone shift more "grandmother" or more "data analyst"?

The price point — is $1.10/day too low for a single reading, too high for casual curiosity?

Try it (no signup required for the free draw): https://sajuapp.app

If anyone here grew up between two cultures — what got lost in translation that you'd build back?

Built solo with: Next.js · Vercel · Supabase · PortOne V2 · PayPal · Claude API · Cloudflare DNS.

Follow build-in-public:

Saju Compatibility Test: Korean Astrology Love Match Free Guide

Why Saju Compatibility Beats Western Astrology

Western astrology checks sun signs. Saju (사주) checks four pillars — Year + Month + Day + Hour. That gives eight characters total.

When two people compare saju, they compare 64 character interactions. Not 12 signs against 12 signs.

That depth = why Korean families have used saju for marriage matching for 1,000 years.

 How It Works

You enter your birth: year, month, day, hour. Your partner does the same.

The algorithm computes:

Day Master compatibility (일간 합) — Are your inner selves naturally drawn?

Five Elements balance (오행 조화) — Wood-Fire-Earth-Metal-Water harmony

Three Harmonies (삼합) — Year animal alignment

Six Combinations (육합) — Hidden chemistry

Each gives a score 0-100. Total = your love compatibility.

 What the Score Means

85+ → Soulmate territory (천생연분)

70-84 → Strong match

55-69 → Average — works with effort

40-54 → Needs awareness of differences

<40 → Challenging — deep understanding required

 Try It Free

sajuapp.app — type both birthdays, get instant compatibility analysis.

9 languages (English / Korean / Japanese / Chinese / Spanish / Portuguese / Indonesian / Vietnamese / Hindi).

No signup. No email. Just answers.

 Bonus: K-drama Archetype Match

After saju, see which K-drama character trope matches you:

Chaebol heir (재벌 상속) — Fire + Authority strong

Mysterious doctor (미스터리 닥터) — Water + Wisdom strong

Warm best friend (따뜻한 친구) — Earth + Loyalty strong

Live stage idol (라이브 무대 아이돌) — Wood + Expression strong

Real Korean characters — not real people. Saju archetype mapping.

 Why Free?

Korean astrology should be accessible. Sajuapp.app reads your chart instantly in your language. Premium 12-page PDF is optional ($7.99).

But the compatibility test? Always free.

Built by KunStudio in Korea. 9 languages.

What Your Birth Hour Says About Your Career — Korean Saju Decoded

Your Birth Hour = Your Career Compass

Korean Saju (사주, four-pillars astrology) uses your birth hour as one of four critical pillars. The other three: year, month, day. The hour pillar reveals your inner drive, hidden talents, and natural career trajectory.

Most Western astrology stops at sun signs. Saju goes deeper.

 12 Saju Time Periods

Saju divides the day into 12 two-hour periods:

Time

지지 (Zhi)

Energy

23:00-01:00

子 Rat

Stillness, deep thought

01:00-03:00

丑 Ox

Endurance, foundation

03:00-05:00

寅 Tiger

Ambition, courage

05:00-07:00

卯 Rabbit
