&lt;p&gt;Before Transformers, we lived in the era of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and LSTMs. They processed text like a human: one word at a time, left to right. This created two critical bottlenecks that Transformers solved:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;li&gt; The &lt;strong&gt;Router&lt;/strong&gt; decides which "Expert" (a smaller sub-network) is best suited for this token.&lt;/li&gt;
