✨ I am a passionate DevOps & Automation Engineer, with a never-ending drive to learn new skills. I love helping end-users to find the right solution for their needs in Software, Design, and Automation. I have multiple skills that help me leverage my experience like DevOps, Automation, UX Development, Mobile App Development, & Web and App Design. ✨

  How I started to work in the tech industry?

I began my career in tech support at Instructure, a software company known for their educational system app "Canvas". In this role, I assisted teachers, students, and administrators with resolving their technical issues. This experience allowed me to gain expertise in API's, manual testing, and automation testing, which eventually led to my promotion as a Software QA Engineer.

During this time, I decided to take on multiple companies simultaneously, which provided me with the opportunity to further develop my skills in automation testing while interning as a Software Engineer at Utah Valley University. This experience enabled me to expand my knowledge base in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Postgres, Cypress, Selenium, and more.

By working in both roles, I gained valuable insight into the software and technology industry. This motivated me to explore other areas of interest, leading me to pursue DevOps and Cybersecurity roles. I am determined to continue learning and expanding my knowledge to contribute to other departments and understand the full software development cycle.

  What is my next goal?

As a Security Engineer, I believe it would be valuable to expand my knowledge in the field of Data Engineering. Understanding how my current skillset can be applied to the data world can help me develop a more comprehensive understanding of the industry and further enhance my abilities.

In addition, I have been dedicating my free time to learning how to build mobile apps with Android and Flutter. This endeavor allows me to broaden my skillset and explore new technologies that have the potential to complement my current expertise.

  What else do I do?

I have a passion for mentoring others on topics that I encounter in my daily life. To pursue this interest, I am actively involved in Google Developers Groups where I conduct events and workshops to share my knowledge with others.

Additionally, I am a teacher at Nucamp, a coding bootcamp. This provides me with the opportunity to impart my skills and experience to a new generation of developers. I find immense satisfaction in helping individuals gain the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve their goals in the tech industry.

  How people can get started in the tech industry?

If you are self-thought person, I will recommend you to sign in for this online - https://boot.dev/?via=alan

If you would like to participate in a coding bootcamp and you have only weekends available, I will recommend you to signing for this - https://lnkd.in/g9HGmT5B

Other than that, you will have to pay attention to the freecodecamp - https://www.freecodecamp.org/

Send Multiple Messages through the Terminal with the iMessage App!

If you would like to learn a quick and fun trick, you will need to do the following:

Get an AppleScript to be able to open the iMessage app:

on run {targetBuddyPhone, targetMessage}
    tell application "Messages"
        set targetService to 1st service whose service type = iMessage
        set targetBuddy to buddy targetBuddyPhone of targetService
        send targetMessage to targetBuddy
        send targetMessage to targetBuddy
        say targetMessage
    end tell
end run

Create a TXT file that will have some lines of text

Create a new Python file: In this python file, you will have to use two different libraries OS, & Config

import os
import config

def get_words(file_path):
    with open(file_path, 'r') as f:
        text = f.readlines()[0]
        words = text.split()
    return words

def get_lines(file_path):
    with open(file_path, 'r') as f:
        text = f.readlines()
    return text

def send_message(phone_number, message):
    os.system('osascript send.scpt {} "{}"'.format(phone_number, message))

if __name__ == '__main__':
    #words = get_words('ly.txt')
    #for word in words:
        #send_message('6197516857', word)

    text = get_lines('ly.txt')
    for line in text:
        send_message('18012321787', line)

After that, you will have to run the script inside the terminal.

python3 main.py

Look at my GitHub repository:

DEVgrad2020: E-Commerce Site

E-commerce Site | FDS Distributors | Case Study

Trex Fencing - FDS Fence Distributors has a vision for his own business to try to develop a new way to sell and promote their products. For the same reason, they decided to hire two developers that can handle this project. One of the developers of this site was me.

To start working on this project, I started to analyze their business and all the projects that they have in every single department to start looking into different rules and tools that I can use. Also, I needed to understand what type of tools will be ok for me to use since they will be managing their side by themselves.

For this reason, I decided to start working with the programming language called PHP, then I decided to use Wordpress to allow people to make changes internally. Plus, I decided to mix these tools with woocommerce to be able to use the API’s from Wordpress and Woocomercce and to be able to add, edit, delete any products from the store. At the same time, I used Plugins that currently have Open API to make sure we can run scripts to adjust materials and to make sure we can change any data like the Front-End from the main pages.

Style Guides will be here: https://xd.adobe.com/view/7eed09dd-b96d-4180-772a-7ae52061914d-08dc/

Link to the Website:

https://www.yournextfence.com/

How I built it (what's the stack? did I run into issues or discover something new along the way?)

HTML, CSS, Javascript, SQL, PHP, Woocommerce, WordPress.

Additional Thoughts / Feelings / Stories

This project was really fun to make and I was able to learn a new programming language (PHP) and I found out that an E-commerce site is not an easy thing to do.

Congratulations to every 2020 Graduate!

Hack your site

Do you know that you can hack your site by creating an iFrame?

As soon as you get into my repl code, I will invite you to check your site by inserting your URL into the next line "target.src= 'insert your URL'".

iFrames bring security risks, and usability issues:

Security Risks:
1.- You may get a submittable malicious web form, phishing your users' personal data.
2.- A malicious user can run a plug-in.
3.- A malicious user can change the source site URL.
4.- A malicious user can hijack your users' clicks.
5.- A malicious user can hijack your users' keystrokes.

Usability Issues:
1.- It tends to break the browsers' "Back" button.
2.- It confuses visually impaired visitors, using screen readers.
3.- It confuses users, suddenly opening the iframe content in a new browser window.
4.- Content within the iframe doesn't fit in and looks odd.
5.- Content within the iframe is missing since the source URL changed.
6.- Navigation of the site in the iframe stops working.
7.- Every in a page requires increased memory and other computing resources.

Please let me know if you have some questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you.

Adderal | Smart Drug

The help for students, workers, and sports-people!

In general, this is a little experiment that started at the beginning of 2018 when I was working at night as a technical support engineer. To give you a better idea of why I decided to take this smart drug was because I was working from midnight to 10 a.m. Plus, I have three little ones at home, and I had some 6 classes in the evening and a coding Bootcamp to finish.

Meaning that my brain was full and it was learning all the time. My actions and my behavior needed some help to be able to keep with everything that I was doing. So, I decided to assist the doctor, and see what I needed to be able to accomplish all my goals.
For a lot of people, this will sound like a joke but for people that have been diagnosed with ADHD will sound different since I was diagnosed with this chronic condition since I was a child. However, I never feel that I need something to be more productive since having this condition is amazing because of this condition has been an addition of the person of who I am. This condition has been allowed me to do more than any other person since I got interested in multiple things at the same time, and I’m able to put the time and effort to study to make sure I will achieve my goals or the things that I want it to do.
At this point, if you are reading this, don’t think that you will need to try this medicine or that you need to do everything in your power to see what it feels. If you think you will need some help, please reach out to your doctor and let them know your needs and let them know your existing problem.

I’m not advising anyone to start taking this medicine, this is only about my experience.
ADHS is A chronic condition including attention difficulty, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. ADHD often begins in childhood and can persist into adulthood. It may contribute to low self-esteem, troubled relationships, and difficulty at school or work. Symptoms include limited attention and hyperactivity. Treatments include medication and talk therapy.

What is the deal with this Smart Drug?
The first deal with this smart drug is that I tried to take it to be able to finish everything that I needed to do. Since everything that I was doing was in a different schedule and I was trying to learn code. Meaning that everything that I was doing was learning and trying to keep it up on top of everything.

It worked or it is a total myth?

In my opinion, I would like to say that it worked for me since this medicine increment more hours of productivity in my life. Also, it worked because it turned another part of my brain which motivated me to start doing things that I didn’t do before.
This medicine gave me more extra hours to pay attention to whatever I was doing. By saying this, I would like to say that the major benefit is that your brain is going to be working more and all the time, meaning that you will be like a machine without stopping.
I started to pay attention more to my classes, I started to keep up with my coding skills. I was able to jump in from one job and one salary to another one in a matter of months.

Attention to Details

I started to pay attention to details like never before. I remember one day that I was driving back from California that I started to listen to music and I was able to listen to every word and start related those words with things that I did or that I will need to do in the future. I started to memorize more things without having a calendar or reminders.

I started to run into more ideas of how I would like to start my business and how I can do different things without getting overwhelmed or tire. This medicine was helping me to improve in several areas of my life.
With more detailed information, I can tell you that I was feeling like a person that should not go to sleep because I was feeling that if I go to bed, I will ruin my day!

At this moment, I feel that something went wrong, but I didn’t want to pay attention to this since I was feeling good and I was feeling better than any other time of the year.
The experiment

Since I noticed that I started to feel some of the side effects from this medicine, I decided to run a test inside of my body to see the difference and see if I will continue with this Adderal or if I will leave it.
The test or experiment started every single morning by doing the following activities:

I went to the University GYM, exercise for an hour, Going home, and take breakfast and take the Adderal. After 45 minutes, I started to feel that my eyes will open more and that my brain will start thinking more than normal. At this point, I started to do all the most important things from the day to make sure that I will not mess up.

The days that I needed to go to work, I did things a little bit differently since I take the pills at 11:00 pm without having to go to sleep before to see if this medicine will help me to keep me awake all my shift. Did it work? Yes, it worked. This medicine will send me to bed after 12:00 a.m.

I tried this routine for almost 3 months, and it worked perfectly as I needed. However, after three months, I started to feel more side-effects that I never feel before. These side effects were having migraines, and having problems going to sleep on time, and having problems with my health since I didn’t feel that I needed to eat some kind of meal during the day.

After my third month with this medicine, I started to feel sweaty, and feel that my heartbeat was running 200% which gave me anxiety, and some stress, and from that day I started to feel grampy every day.
At this moment, I decided to reduce the dose from what I was using normally to see if anything will change. Then, I started to use half of my prescription. From there, I started to feel a lot better, and I was feeling that I was not codependent from these pills.
Moreover, I started to see that my brain was feeling the same and that I was hungry more, and pretty often, I started to need more fluids for my body.

In month 12, I realized that I needed to stop to see if I will need this medicine or not. As soon as I started to take this smart drug, I started to see that I was not able to sleep and that I was getting nervous since my body started to ask for this pill. As soon as I discovered that my body needed to take this pill, I started to change my behavior and started to create a different routine to make sure I will be able to stop this medicine.
By doing this, my body started to react pretty immediately. In other words, I was having trouble to concentrate, I was having problems with my anxiety, and I started to feel depressed.

How I fixed it?

As I said before, I started to change my behavior, and I created a routine where I forced my body to start new routines like going to the GYM every day, started to drink more water and fluid to keep my body hydrated. Also, I started to eat breakfast every single morning, and after 2 months I was able to recover from this issue that I created.

PROS (My opinion)

You will get more things done
You will have more energy
You will stop drinking energy drinks or any other source of help
You will be able to learn multiple things at the same time

Cons (My opinion)

You can create an addiction
You can reduce the number of hours that you sleep
You will cause problems with your health since you will eat less, and you will drink water less than normal

You will create a dependency on this medicine that you will need to take before doing anything else since you will feel that without this prescription, you will not be able to keep it up.
In conclusion, I will say that you will need to know what you are doing to make sure you can research all the things that you need to know before making any decisions. I feel that we need more information about this medicine to keep in our heads who we are, and how we can create better habits in our lives to make sure we will not be affecting our health by this type of medicine.

We are pretty smart, the only thing that we need is dedication and passion for things that we like and we love to make sure we will always do more without having to take any weird prescriptions.
Having a condition doesn’t mean that you are sick and that you are not a normal person. However, I think we need to know and learn how we can play with this type of condition to make sure we get more of ourselves to learn how to live with this type of condition and to know our limitations, and to see what else we can do to improve. This is the way how I learned that a condition is an advantage over others since we can focus and do more in less time which I will call it in the following way “Having a condition will make us do things that nobody will try.”

How to learn new things | My Roadtrip

Is it possible to have a diversity of knowledge here & there?

To answer this question, I would like to start with the following quote:
Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.
So, how many of you feel connected to this way to learn something new? or How many of you feel that you need to have solid knowledge in something to be able to build something? or How many of you feel still in the limbo?

At this point, you will be wondering what are you talking about Willis. However, the truth of these questions is that every single one of us has different ways to achieve their dreams. And every single one of us has a different methodology to get into the place that you want to be. The only problem with this is when you have some unique thoughts and unique way to think about problems and solutions since many of us like so many things that we cannot stand out at only one thing like the rest of the world.
Even worse, you start to apply to jobs and you start getting into your field, and you find out that you don’t like something static since you like to learn constantly, and you like to do different things at the same time. Yes, I will accept that this part is who I am since I’m almost graduating from college and I found that the majority of my jobs are giving me a certain way of satisfaction and course more money to the table that allow me to give a better life to my three little ones.
To give you some context of who I am, I will give you a brief story from where I came from and why I’m thinking like that. To the people that don’t know me, I would like to tell you that my road trip brought me to Utah 5 years ago, where I started to study English at Utah Valley University. After that, I decided to jump in again into the college society, meaning that I get enrolled in a new college program “Web & App Development.”

During this period, I decided to work in different industries, and multiple places to see what I like to do and what I don’t like to do. Doing this, I found that I’m pretty bad at fixing things manually and that I like to do more thinking, and here is when I found that Design, Photography & Coding was my thing.

Later on, I found that every job in the tech industry will be different since not many companies will combine coding and design. If you get into an interview, you will see that people will see you as a person that you don’t know what you want to do because they are expecting you to know how to do one thing or if the job description says a specific skill, you will need to say that to get a job.

For this reason, I decided to do multiple things to hack into the interviews. You know, Mexican people will do whatever it takes to get what we want!

The first thing that I did was getting in contact with a person from Indeed, and review my resume. After multiple revisions, they agreed on the changes that I made into it. Then, I created one resume for development where I include the skills from a full-stack developer position, and I created another resume with my Design skills. Then, I created two indeed accounts to be able to apply to different roles like Full-Stack Developer, Front-End Developer, UX Designer, Marketing Developer, Web Designer, etc.

The way that I started to apply to different jobs at the same time was by doing a bot with python and selenium where I used my credentials from indeed to get into my account and from there to start debugging into the same application to be able to get the right element to start running into automation.

If you wonder why I always say the same thing is because this is my way to get into different things and the way that I learn how to apply reverse engineering and the way that I can dominate the market that I’m trying to target. This is where you can notice that I don’t like to do only one thing or that I don’t like to learn only one thing. Now, Google will teach you how to do all of these things, and how to be prepared for the worst scenarios like the one that we have right know COVID-19 Infection Control Working Group.

Many people are losing their jobs, and a lot of people are trying to help but the economy is getting complicate. In other words, many places will try to help you and many others will not be able to help you because they will need to take care of their businesses firsts before helping others.
Furthermore, people are having more complications of how to serve and give a home to their families. For this reason, we need to learn how to do multiple things at the same time to make sure we will be ok in the hard times or to be able to teach others how to get out of these types of situations.

The best way to learn new things is by willing to take challenges, and by learning on the road. In this way, you will have difficulty to know the way that you want to go, but it will help to learn multiple solutions. Put it in this way, when your parents say “no”, when your boss says “is not possible”, when you say “I can’t do it” what is the thing that you need to do to get out of this type of situation? So, many of you will say that is impossible, but if you look outside your window, you will be able to see that so many people will do different things to get out of trouble, but the only way to do it, is by trying and failing multiple times.

My route trip at the beginning was hard because I didn’t know the language, and I didn’t know anyone. Then, after I started to speak the language, so many others start telling me that I have an accent. I remembered those days where I used to be angry at people because I didn’t know how to react, but one day I listened to Matt D'Avella, Gary Vaynerchuk, and this is when I started to think that I don’t need to care about the opinions from others since the only one that will be affected is me.

In my opinion, every trip and every dream will always be different from one person to another. However, we need to pay attention to details, willing to learn, willing to fail, willing to get into different adventures to see how you can overcome yourself. By sharing this I will hope that you can learn something and definitely if you have some questions about my experiences, feel free to reach out to me at hvaandres@icloud.com or get into my podcast called “The Last”.
Please check out my page, my podcast, and let me know your opinion. In a couple of days, I will be releasing a new series for my podcast. These episodes will be named “What If”. Stay tuned and let me know if you have any feedback or recommendations.

If you have questions, you will need to email me at hvaandres@icloud.com. Please take a look at my website, repl, twitter, Github, Spanish Medium Account, Dev Community, and LinkedIn.

Let’s start coding with Python…!

Python is an interpreted, high-level, general-purpose programming language. Created by Guido van Rossum and first released in 1991, Python’s design philosophy emphasizes code readability with its notable use of significant whitespace.

The partition() method searches for a specified string and splits the string into a tuple containing three elements. The first element contains the part before the specified string. The second element contains the specified string. The third element contains the part after the string.
