Unified Search Now Available in Hostman’s Control Panel

We're excited to introduce a unified search bar that takes you directly to your service or documentation in seconds, enabling you to streamline your workflows.

We are evolving our UI to reduce friction and keep developers in their flow. With our latest update, Hostman delivers a similarly streamlined experience — now, you have global search directly in your panel.

 Here’s how it works

Open your Control Panel and press ⌘/Ctrl + K, or click the search field.

Type anything — e.g., your server name, database label, or IP address (e.g., “db‑prod‑1” or “192.168.10.5”).

Instantly get a unified list:

 matching services (with configurations),

 network info (e.g., IPs),

and relevant docs (like "Manage Load Balancer").

Refine results using the Tab key — toggle between Services and Documentation. Use the arrow keys to navigate through results, and hit Enter to open.

 Why this matters

It keeps you focused — no need to remember navigation paths or hunt for docs.
Mobile-ready UI — pick and jump, even on your phone.
Filters and shortcuts are simple and efficient.

Explore the search feature in your Control Panel — we’d love to hear how this fits into your routine.

Interactive Cloud Infrastructure Scheme | Hostman

 Introducing the Cloud Infrastructure Scheme

If you are tired of sketching your clouds and VMs in Miro, draw.io, or Figma to understand all your infrastructure, we hear you — that ends now.

We are thrilled to announce a brand new feature — an infrastructure scheme that provides a fully synchronized, interactive map of your entire infrastructure. And it's free, with no extra cost or hidden fees — just clarity and care.

 What you can do

With this feature, you can:

View all project services — cloud servers, databases, S3 buckets, Kubernetes clusters, and load balancers.

Navigate instantly — use an auto-generated master map, customizable to your needs.

Organize visually — group resources in private networks, show traffic paths, or add custom blocks and comments, just like in Figma.

Zoom, go full screen, and lock layouts — navigate with ease and precision.

Every element displays its live status, region, resource specifications, and, for active incidents or maintenance, relevant alerts. The map isn't just pretty; it's operationally valuable.

 How it works

We've built an infrastructure scheme using React Flow with custom improvements. Here's how it works:

Metadata only on the server: positions, connections, comments — while live resource data (status, specs, region) is fetched directly from the front-end store.

Live resource data is fetched on the client, ensuring freshness and avoiding data drift.

Efficient editing through a debounced 1–2 second delay — your edits are batched, editing remains smooth, and server load stays low.

Safe loading: If the system detects missing or inconsistent data at load time, editing is paused to prevent broken layouts or errors.

 The result

With Hostman's infrastructure scheme, your infrastructure becomes alive: interactive, clean, and reliable. You get instant insight into how everything is wired without managing diagrams manually. It's not just about seeing your setup; it's about understanding it.

 Next steps

The scheme already helps to understand how the infrastructure works. The next step is to transform it into a management tool. Our plans to transform this feature include:

Ability to create drafts of schemes — to assemble the infrastructure like a constructor, to design connections, areas of responsibility, and structure. Then, we can deploy everything with one click, eliminating the need to switch between sections and manually create resources.

New types of elements: pseudo-blocks for APIs, third-party services, and even physical servers. This will enable you to create a diagram that reflects not only the cloud but also the entire project.

Display modes: statuses and characteristics will be important in some contexts, while only the general structure will matter in others. You will be able to switch between levels of detail and customize visibility to your preference.

We aim to make the infrastructure scheme a fundamental resource, eliminating the need for everyone to track every detail or rely on outdated diagrams and screenshots.

 Ready to try it?

Log in to Hostman, navigate to your project, choose the Infrastructure scheme tab, and let the platform generate your infrastructure map. It's now available to all users for free, with no additional fee.

Databases are an essential part of almost any project today. Database interactions are especially familiar to system and database administrators, DevOps/SRE professionals, and software developers. While administrators typically deploy one or multiple database instances and configure the necessary connection parameters for applications, developers need to connect directly to the database within their code. This article explores how to connect to databases using different programming languages.

We will provide examples for connecting to MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, and ClickHouse databases using Python, Go, and JavaScript.

Git has been around for almost 20 years, yet it remains the most popular distributed version control system. It is best known for GitHub, the largest remote Git repository where developers store their code, document changes, and save previous versions. To help manage versions efficiently, Git provides special markers called tags. This article will explore what Git tags are and how to use them.
