3 Things to Improve Your Productivity

As most of us developers I also suck at productivity even though I had different opinion and was considering myself to be very productive. So today I'm going to share 3 things that helped me get more productive. I'm not a big fan of using too many applications or plugins, so that's why only 3 things but still they helped me boost my productivity so much. Hope you'll find this helpful.

 TabNine

First we have TabNine, it's "The Mother of all Autocomplete Apps / Plugins". It's an all-langauge autocompleter that uses deep learning to help us write code faster. The way it works is It can recognize common patterns from libraries and frameworks like React, Vue, etc. It's written in Rust and fun fact is that without Rust ecosystem TabNine probably wouldn't exist.

 Oh My Zsh

On second place is Oh My Zsh. It's an open source framework for managing your zsh configuration. What it does is it extends zsh with new functionality and plugins. I like it because of its vast ecosystem, you can customize its look with one out of hundreds themes, but the best thing is its plugin extendability. For example plugins I'm using are: git, jump, zsh-autosuggestions, zsh-syntax-highlighting. All of its properties and options are written in .zshrc file.

 WakaTime

And last but not least is WakaTime. This app changed how I think about productivity. Before installing it I was sure I was spending most of the time on my job in editor writing code, boy was I wrong huh. It turned out I was spending only 3 out of 8 hours per day and I wasn't happy with that. But now few months later my daily average has gone up to around 6 hours per day, and It's all thanks to the WakaTime.

Heyy, I currently have some time to spare in life so I'm looking for open source maintainers or product owners who need help.

I'm working as a back end developer before that I was front end developer for a year. Stack is node.js (typescript), postgreSql, and for frontend I prefer Vue or React.

Also if you have any ideas and need some help implementing them or anything feel free to reach out. 😃

Error: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND localhost.localdomain

Today I went to work on a project for a company I'm working (it's a web app built in Vue.js). When I encountered an error I haven't seen before.

Error: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND localhost.localdomain

So to save you all from googling I'll show you a simple step to solve this. The problem here is that app can't find localhost as host in the
/etc/host
. To solve this enter in your terminal:
1. sudo vim /etc/host (you can use any editor you want I just prefer vim)
2. inside /etc/host enter
127.0.0.1 localhost

3. save file and it should all work

Pro tip:
You can do all of it with only one line
sudo echo "127.0.0.1 localhost" >> /etc/host

If you get error
permission denied: /etc/host
simply enter in the terminal
sudo chown <username> /etc/host

I'm getting very interested in blockchain technology and I was wondering if it's a good thing since I'm junior with only 8 months of experience at a real job.

It would be awesome to get the job as a blockchain developer someday (probably remote since there are none blockchain jobs in my country) so should I invest in it or nah?

I've been reading about docker a lot and can't quite figure out if it is to any use for me, I'm a front end developer looking to transfer to the backend so it'd be good to know docker but does it have any uses for a front end developer?

What do you guys think about template engines?
I just got in touch with pug.js and it feels more natural to me tha basic HTML syntax.

So my question is what do you guys think about it, what are your experiences with them, and should i start using them more often or not?

Thinking of junior developer

To start this story you should probably know something about me first. I am 20 years old developer with no college degree and I just made it through my first week as a junior front-end developer.

Right now I am sitting at my table and I can't believe that I am working as a web developer. I actually went to college for 2 years without luck since I couldn't force myself to study I pretty much failed every class for 2 years in a row and I knew I had to something with my life. So naturally, I started looking around the internet and got interested in programming since I actually dabbled with some QBasic and C but it was in elementary and all that was forgotten. I decided to give it a shot and start with web development more accurately HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Skipping 10 months ahead I landed my first job as a junior front-end developer and I already had several projects before that. So how did I managed to secure 3 projects and a job within 10 months of learning programming...easy same as anyone else can do it. Just believe in yourself, I can't stress enough how much positive mindset can affect your way of thinking and doing things. If you keep thinking 'I can't do this', 'This is too hard', 'I will never learn this' well then probably you won't learn it and it will be hard because how can you learn or achieve something if you don't believe in yourself?

Basically what I wanted to share today is that positive mindset is all you need to succeed at something, nobody is born knowing everything and everyone is learning so why should you be ashamed that you don't know something? Take pride in knowing that you don't know everything and let it push you to never stop learning and never stop working on yourself because at the end of the day that's all that counts.
