Intro/Who am I?

Hi there 👋🏾, My name is Greg and I'm an aspiring front-end developer from the UK currently learning HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

When I'm not coding, you can find me:

writing music

creating 3D artworks

gaming

listening to podcasts

researching things I'm curious about

spending time with family

learning Spanish

reading

My journey up to now ✨

For some time now, I've been wanting to make a career change from working in retail to somewhere that I can make more of an impact. During the COVID-19 lockdown, having played around with basic HTML in the past, I decided to give it a try again and started with a course in responsive web design. I quickly fell in love with it and the rest is history, as they say.

After becoming comfortable with basic/intermediate HTML & CSS, I delved into JavaScript where it's really been one hell of a rollercoaster but I'm all the better for it. I've spent a lot of my time the past few months going over more intermediate/advanced topics before jumping into frameworks (React, Vue etc.) Having said that, I've just taken the plunge into learning React which I'm both excited and terrified about. Wish me luck!

 Blogging on DEV

From when I first signed up to DEV a couple of months ago, it's been a place I can always come to find awesome posts. Whether it's a list full of useful resources, or a super-simple breakdown of a complex concept, I've definitely learnt a lot and built upon existing knowledge by being on here.

As I've been progressing in my coding journey, I've recently decided to push myself and share what I'm learning in a way that I find helps me learn best, which can hopefully help others too. One of the ways I'll be sharing what I'm learning is through posting here on DEV. It's also a great way to give back to a community that has been so helpful and inspiring!

 Getting started

After making the decision to start blogging, I've found it pretty difficult to get started whether that be choosing a topic, lack of confidence or even just carving out time in the week to spend writing. So, I'm using this post as a way to kick things off whilst also giving a bit of a background about myself.

I'll be aiming to post consistently to keep the momentum going. I'm not yet sure how frequent that will be as I'll have to find what works for best for me in my current schedule, but I'm looking forward to sharing what I'm learning & am passionate about, which will hopefully help others :)

 Going forward

In an effort to give back to an infinitely supportive community, as well as starting to blog I also hope to explore other mediums in which I can share my knowledge, as well as the tools and resources that have helped me along the way. I'm currently playing with a few ideas for a project that incorporates some of my hobbies to provide a unique learning experience, so if that sounds interesting to you, make sure to watch this space!

 Connect with me

If you're curious to learn more about me and my journey then I welcome you to follow me on here or twitter and github for the projects I'm building/working on. All links to those are on my profile :)

 Conclusion

Thanks for taking the time to read and I look forward to learning & growing with you guys on this great platform! Till next time 🤘🏾
