By now you’ve probably seen or experienced several types and formats of events on Gitcoin – from multiple sponsor events to public health hackathons, cross-chain challenges, and virtual blockchain weeks.

This time, we’re helping co-launch the Cartesi DApp Incubation Program. TL;DR, build your DApp with Cartesi using Linux and they will distribute $80k+ in prizes to the best 3 DApps. 🎉

What is Cartesi?

Cartesi is the only infrastructure that allows developers to use Linux and mainstream software stacks to build powerful DApps. Cartesi allows decentralized applications to run within a Linux environment. Complex processing can be executed off-chain, free from a blockchain’s computational limits and corresponding fees. How the program works

There will be 3 phases of the Incubation Program.

Phase I

Submit your application between September 21 – October 12, 2020
You may request a budget (up to 20K USD)
Set your own development milestones along with delivery deadlines
With the timely achievement of each milestone, a portion of the total amount you requested will get unlocked and paid out to your team
Three teams will then be selected to receive their budget and will go on to the incubation phase
Join the workshops Cartesi has planned to understand more about how you can use Linux to build your DApp

Phase II

Three winning teams will build their proposed projects over the next 3.5 months
There will be periodic check-ins with the Cartesi team and Mentors
Payments will be sent out incrementally as predetermined milestones are reached
Teams submit their final DApps by February 1, 2021

Phase III

Between February 8-19, an additional award will be determined by a Quadratic Funding Gitcoin Grants round exclusively for the three Cartesi projects
Cartesi will invest an additional 20K in a matching pool (plus any extra amount raised by the community)
February 26, 2021, announcement of the additional funds the teams will receive

🌈 Why Hack the Rainbow?

We believe the future of the Open Web is collaborative and building the Open Web means building bridges.

Since we already live in a vastly interconnected world, building the new web should also be all about interoperability. The concept of a new, accessible Open Web is aimed at making everything interoperable and building a permanent, ownerless, and borderless foundation for the connected global community of which we are all a part.

Hack the Rainbow 🌈 will be a creative, collaborative, cross chain hackathon focused on building the bridges needed to make web3 an accessible reality for everyone. Our aim is to work with our Ethereum partners and bring together the best tools for that build.

This is our collective chance to explore and create that “wide range of related and colourful things” that can bring Ethereum and NEAR together. We see it as a chance to deliver community education and broaden opportunity for everyone wanting to explore the power of interoperability and interconnectedness.

🌉 The Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge allows developers to utilize Ethereum assets and smart contracts on NEAR—a fast, scalable, and low-cost environment. The Bridge has the power to accelerate community development as it allows ETH users immediate access to apps built on NEAR.

This is the first trustless bridge of its kind. It supports ERC20, ERC721, and remains fully decentralized and adaptable to any future protocol changes on either side. You can already check out the GitHub repo and read the launch blog to find out more about the bridge.

🤩 What to Expect

Our two-week hackathon starts September 15 but will be preceded by two weeks of educational content so that all participants can get up to speed with NEAR, the bridge and all the possibilities. All workshops will be recorded on Crowdcast and available publicly for you to watch at any time! You can watch some of the previous workshops here on Crowdcast and make sure to follow us to get the latest updates.

Before the Hackathon

If you’re solo and looking to join a team, we help you identify and connect with other hackers.
LEARN: there will be two weeks of educational sessions in the run-up to the hackathon so make sure you tune in and learn the ins and outs.
Come up with ideas! There will be plenty of bounties to work on but we’d love for you to get creative and come up with an exciting new project!

During the Hackathon (15 days)

You work on your hack!
2x virtual immersive events during the weekends on Hopin where each team gets their own dedicated room and support/mentorship for their projects.
We will have regular office hours so that you can ask all your questions and feel supported throughout.
Access to on-call core team members on Discord.

At the end of 15 days, we begin the judging process.

You finalize and submit your hack and make your bounty submissions.
You’ll get to present your project in front of our expert judges.

Gitcoin + Chainlink: Bug Bounty Program

We are proud to announce that we have teamed up with Chainlink to launch a new bug bounty program to help further secure the now widely used Chainlink protocol for decentralized oracles. Chainlink is the market-leading decentralized oracle network that is powering much of the DeFi ecosystem.

This bug bounty program is being funded by the Chainlink Community Grant Program, with over $100k in LINK tokens already being sent into Gitcoin, all of which are ready to be paid out to whitehat hackers and anyone else interested in helping secure Chainlink.

By working closely with us and the open-source development community, Chainlink is looking to ensure the smart contract economy as a whole is powered by oracles that are as maximally tamper-resistant and secure as possible. This initial grant program is just the beginning as Chainlink plans to scale up their bug bounty over time by continuing to offer more grants paid in LINK to give back to the community supporting them.

For those not familiar with Chainlink, it is a generalized framework for building decentralized oracle networks that grant smart contracts access to secure and reliable data inputs and outputs such as market data, web APIs, payment systems, and more. Chainlink’s Price Reference Feeds have become the go-to resource of market data that is currently securing many leading DeFi products.

Chainlink is most interested in uncovering and mitigating any potential vulnerabilities in their Solidity based smart contracts and Goland/Typescript based core node software. Issues that could lead to a loss of funds for users or node operators will receive the highest bounty rewards.

Payouts

There is a 2X bounty multiplier until September 30th, for a maximum bounty prize of up to $50,000. The payouts vary according to severity. For any reports affecting the Chainlink node client through an on-chain data request, an additional bonus will be provided 🎉

Announcing APOLLO (Gitcoin x Filecoin)

In partnership with Protocol Labs, we’re excited to welcome builders from everywhere to APOLLO, your mission control to engage with the builders and doers within Filecoin community.

For the accepted builders, APOLLO will feel like a room full of new friends building great things around Filecoin. We’ll share ideas, fantastic learning materials, and time building relationships together around our ideas for a better future.

APOLLO will run from August 19th – September 30th as a 6-week, invite-only program designed for entrepreneurs, builders and makers interested in the Filecoin ecosystem to either continue their work or start new projects using Filecoin and Web3 ecosystem. You can join building a Filecoin infrastructure project, an early stage Filecoin startup, or as an interested builder.

The program is inspired in large part by the success of KERNEL, which has brought together 250+ builders to build 70 projects and — most importantly — foster lifelong relationships amongst the peers in the program. We can’t wait to build on the success here with a similar APOLLO mission 😉.

For those who don’t know, Filecoin is a peer-to-peer network that stores files, with built-in economic incentives to ensure files are stored reliably over time. It is made by Protocol Labs and builds on top of the InterPlanetary File System, allowing users to rent unused hard drive space.

At the core of the vision, It is decentralized storage that serves as the data backbone and will break the bottleneck of data transfer in web3 and Ethereum’s applications.

What is APOLLO?

Filecoin Ignite has been a concerted effort from the Filecoin community to prepare the Filecoin community for their mainnet launch later this year. Starting with our peers at ETHGlobal with HackFS, continuing with Space Race for Filecoin Miners, and now, with APOLLO, Filecoin is continuing to show their dedication to building a strong, sustainable community.

Over the course of 6 weeks from August 17th to September 30th, we hope to see 300+ people building 50+ projects and building relationships in the Filecoin ecosystem which last well beyond the event.

The focus of APOLLO is to provide a giving-based “home base” for talented peers interested in Filecoin. The program will be participatory in nature, which starts with a strong syllabus to learn how to think about and build open systems. From there, the programming will provide opportunities for APOLLO Builders to grow their projects and build lifelong relationships alongside other builders on the frontier of Filecoin world.

Afterwards, many projects may move forward into different programs — including the a) Filecoin Grants ecosystem and b) Tachyon’s Filecoin Launchpad, where APOLLO Builders can go to receive investment in their startups. Hopefully, many will become mainstays within the nascent Filecoin ecosystem.

The opt-in curriculum of the program is divided into micro-milestones which will help you find a home in the Filecoin ecosystem, potential as a) a business or b) a grantee of the Filecoin ecosystem, or in other ways to continue your work well beyond the program.

FAQs

Is there a cost for APOLLO?

There is no cost for accepted participants to attend the program. There may be a requirement to stake $50 if you’d like access to the exclusive community events during the program, which you’d receive back at the end of the program.

How do I join?

Hit “Join Now” above, and fill out the registration form. Gitcoin will review your application and select a curated list of registrants to join a private, invite-only chat for the event.

Between 8 – 22 July, Matic is challenging all adventurous and skillful coders to explore Matic’s design and code, searching for any species of vulnerabilities. Focus your searches especially on Matic’s staking and delegation-related smart contracts, and compete for one of their hefty prizes.

The Matic team is staking 4 tiers of rewards, ranging between $300 and $5,000, with an exciting twist: each prize can benefit from a bounty multiplier (between 1 and 10), increasing the prize value to a maximum of $50,000!

Join the Matic Layer2 Security Hackathon

#2 Matic Build-n-Earn Program – Assisting dApps to thrive

Once the code is all cleand up, we’re excited to announce that Matic Network is partnering with Gitcoin to launch the Build-n-Earn Program – assisting dApps to thrive – starting in August.

Matic will be committing $50K monthly for projects which utilize Matic in their dApps. $15K of the $50K will be used in a CLR matching pool, where, leveraging Gitcoin Grants, Matic and Gitcoin community members can vote for projects of interest with their own donations to these projects.

Build-n-Earn is a monthly recurring incentive program designed to support the OSS community’s ventures into Ethereum transactions development and scalability, through grants offered by Matic’s passionate team. These grants will support developers through the development and maintenance stage of their decentralized application.

This program is an early sign of things to come using community signal to fund great open source projects. We’re excited to work with Matic to chart this path — building up on the 6 Gitcoin Grants rounds which have happened thus far which have helped allocate $2MM to Ethereum projects.

How does the program work?

Dapps submitted through the Build-n-Earn program are evaluated through a process of consensus between the Matic team and Gitcoin’s community voting.

Matic will put forward a monthly fund of $50,000 to be distributed among the winning dApp teams. 30% of the funds will be reserved by Matic for the matching pool within the quadratic funding offered by Gitcoin, while 70% will be allocated by a set of reviewers designated by the Matic team based on their pre-defined parameters.

What type of dApps are eligible for Build-n-Earn?

Matic focuses on simplifying the interaction between users and the decentralized world. They’re looking for ideas that will make interacting with the decentralized ecosystem so easy that anyone can do it without worrying about the complexity of the system.

From wallets to gaming networks, any idea that would make Ethereum transactions a leaner and more accessible experience, is eligible for Matic’s monthly funding. The only condition is that the dApp is developed on the Matic network, which has a full blown EVM support. They like to say if you are an Ethereum Developer, you already know Matic 😉

Who can apply for Matic’s program?

As long as you have a decentralized application built on Matic, the answer is anybody can! If your application is currently on Ethereum or some other blockchain, don’t worry – you can easily use Matic as it has full EVM support and discover their high-performance, low-fee infrastructure.
