These are my notes from the SQL Module of Udemy course of Hitesh Choudhary. The Notes are very RAW and they are just there for the syntax reference.

CREATE TABLE chai_store(
id          SERIAL PRIMARY KEY,
chai_name   VARCHAR(50),
price       DECIMAL(5,2),
chai_type   VARCHAR(100),
available   BOOLEAN
);

-- INSERT RECORDS IN THE chai_store TABLE

-- CHANGE THE EXISTING COLUMN IN THE EXISTING TABLE

-- DELETES WHOLE COLUMN NAMED category
ALTER TABLE chai_store DROP category

-- THIS KEEPS THE STRUCTURE OF THE TABLE BUT DELETES ALL THE RECORDS(ROWS)
TRUNCATE TABLE chai_table;

-- THIS WILL RENAME THE TABLE NAME
ALTER TABLE chai_store RENAME TO bakery_story;

-- THIS WILL CHANGE THE COLUMN NAME
ALTER TABLE chai_store RENAME COLUMN chai_type TO chai_varients;

  DDL - Data Definition Language

Used to define and manage database objects like tables, indexes, views, etc..

DDL Commands deal with structure and schema of the database

CREATE, ALTER , DROP, TRUNCATE, RENAME

  DML - Data Manipulation Language

Deals with manipulation of the data inside the table

compared to the DDL, these commands only work with data not structure

INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, SELECT

  DCL - Data Control Language

Deals with granting and revoking privileges on the database

GRANT, REVOKE

-- THIS WILL GIVE SELECT PERMISSION TO USER NAMED gaurav
GRANT SELECT ON chai_store TO gaurav;

GRANT INSERT, DELETE ON chai_store TO sales_team;

-- THIS WILL REMOVE SELECT PERMISSION FROM USER NAMED gaurav
REVOKE SELECT ON chai_store FROM gaurav;

REVOKE INSERT, DELETE ON chai_store FROM sales_team;

  TCL - Transaction Control Language

Deals with transaction management in the database.

Transaction make sure series of DML commands are executed successfully or not at all.

BEGINE, COMMIT, ROLLBACK, SAVEPOINT

BEGIN;
INSERT INTO chai_store (chai_name, chai_type, price, available) VALUES ('Masala Chai', 'Spiced', 30.00, TRUE);
UPDATE inventory SET stock = stock - 5 WHERE name = 'Jacket';
COMMIT;

In the above example, both queries will need to be executed or not executed at all, they will not be stopped in the middle, where the insert query will be executed and update will not, that will not happen since we are using the BEGIN command.

And with COMMIT command we finalize the whole transaction.

When using the ORMs, this part will be handled by the ORM by default so we dont have to deal with whole ATOMICITY part manually and we can focus on the actual query itself

BEGIN;
-- CREATE A SAVEPOINT
SAVEPOINT savepoint1;
-- PERFORM AN OPERATION
INSER INTO products (name, price, stock) VALUES ("Jeans", 3000.00, 6);
-- ROLLBACK TO SAVEPOINT IF NEEDED
ROLLBACK TO savepoint1;

  This is the example for the SAVEPOINT and ROLLBACK commands, it will create a point in the query to comeback to and then we can decide when to comeback to that checkpoint using the ROLLBACK TO command.

  Foreign Key

CREATE TABLE Orders (
    OrderID int PRIMARY KEY,
    OrderNumber int NOT NULL,
    CustomerID int,
    -- Establishing the link to the Customers table
    FOREIGN KEY (CustomerID) REFERENCES Customers(CustomerID)
);

-- ADDING THE FOREIGN KEY TO THE EXISTING TABLE
ALTER TABLE Orders
ADD CONSTRAINT FK_CustomerOrder
FOREIGN KEY (CustomerID) REFERENCES Customers(CustomerID);

Foreign key is defined while creating a new table and we can also add it using ALTER TABLE method if the foreign key does not exist and we need to add it

in this we use the FOREIGN KEY command, define the column name that is the primary key of another table and then add REFERENCES keyword to give the reference to the table name and the column name.

  JOINS

Inner join will only give data that has reference in both the table

LEFT JOIN will perform an INNER Join first and then return the rest of the data from LEFT JOIN

Same with the RIGHT JOIN but with this we will get the data from Right Table

OUTER JOIN combines both table and gives us combined data

In any query, the first table will be considered as the left table

We just define the type of the join and then the table name

SELECT customer_name, product_name, quantity FROM customers INNER JOIN orders;

When dealing with the joins we have to define which value will be coming from which table and we can define acronym for both of the table and then use those acronym on the select values

at the end we also define the joining condition for both table with
INNER JOIN orders o ON c.customer_id = o.customer_id;
(“Match rows where the customer_id is the same in both tables”)

here we are defining which is the left table

SELECT c.customer_name, o.product_name, o.quantity
FROM customers c
INNER JOIN orders o ON c.customer_id = o.customer_id;

  now from this, if you want to change this into a LEFT JOIN or RIGHT JOIN, you can just change the keyword from INNER JOIN to LEFT JOIN

SELECT c.customer_name, o.product_name, o.quantity
FROM customers c
LEFT JOIN orders o ON c.customer_id = o.customer_id;

In the above example, first we will get the intersection result of the Join and then all other record of the LEFT table (since this is the LEFT JOIN, if it would be RIGHT JOIN then we get the intersection and then all the data from right table)

for the outer join we just use the FULL OUTER JOIN keyword

SELECT c.customer_name, o.product_name, o.quantity
FROM customers c
FULL OUTER JOIN orders o ON c.customer_id = o.customer_id;

  We can also do multiple join, we can add them at the end of the query

SELECT customer_name, product_name, quantity
FROM customers
INNER JOIN orders LEFT JOIN products RIGHT JOIN tracking_table;

  Inner Query

We define the inner query or sub query with the IN keyword

this inner query will run first then the outer query or the main query will run

  Mental model

First, make a list: “Who bought T-Shirts?”

Then, go to customers table and say: “Give me their names.”

SELECT customer_name
FROM customers
WHERE customer_id IN (
    SELECT customer_id
    FROM orders
    WHERE product_name = 'T-Shirt'
)

  Aggregator (or aggregate) functions in SQL are functions that take multiple rows of data and return a single value.

SELECT student.student_name,COUNT(*)
       FROM student,course
       WHERE student.student_id=course.student_id
       GROUP BY student_name;

here the COUNT is the aggregate function, that gives us the row count of the query

The aggregate function
COUNT(*)
is counting how many times each student appears after the join — which equals how many courses they have.

Create
store.js
file in the
src
folder, which will have all the data

you can create slices which are reducer functions what are actions based on the state of the application, this is a RTK functionality

there can be multiple slices according to the data

in the slice file for example,
movieSlice.js
, you can use
createSlice
function to create a slice

this createSlice function takes in an object with diferent values, name, initialState, reducers

we can also create a different object for initialstate

import { createSlice } from "@reduxjs/toolkit";

const initialState = {
  movies: [],
};

const movieSlice = createSlice({
  name: "movies",
  initialState,
  reducers: {
    addMovie: () => {},
    removeMovie: () => {},
  },
});

so in slices we define the state and when we want to do some change to the state, we call the reducer functions

reducer functions take 2 arguments: state and action

  addMovie: (state, action) => {
    state.movies.push(action.payload);
  },

now through the state we can access the state of the slice and then through action we can get the data that we can use to update the state

so we can get current state and then we can perform actions of either read or update or delete through the actions

now in the main.jsx file we can import Provider from react-redux which will take a store argument where we can pass our store that we have crated

import { StrictMode } from "react";
import { createRoot } from "react-dom/client";
import "./index.css";
import App from "./App.jsx";
import { Provider } from "react-redux";
import { store } from "./store.js";

createRoot(document.getElementById("root")).render(
  <StrictMode>
    <Provider store={store}>
      <App />
    </Provider>
  </StrictMode>
);

useSelector is one of the hooks that react-redux provides for getting data from the state

  const movies = useSelector((state) => state.movies.movies);

this is how you get the state from the store, here useSelector gets an arguments through which we can access the store.

so
state.movies
will get the state from the store which will direct to the movies slice so now we can access the the state in the movies slice through
state.movies.movies
we can do this because in the movies we have done

export const store = configureStore({
  reducer: {
    movies: movieReducer,
  },
});

useDispatch hook is also one of the hooks that redux provides that is used to call any function or in case of redux it is used to call any action function, in our case it will be addMovie()

export const MovieInput = () => {
  const [newMovie, setNewMovie] = useState("");

  const dispatch = useDispatch();

  const handleAddMovie = () => {
    if (newMovie) {
      dispatch(addMovie(newMovie));
      setNewMovie("");
    }
  };
  return (
    <>
      <input onChange={(e) => setNewMovie(e.target.value)} value={newMovie} />
      <button onClick={handleAddMovie}> Add Movie</button>
    </>
  );
};

so this is the way we can call a function and then pass the value

in the slice we can get the value that we passed here through
action.payload

Hey! I am Currently learning Go Lang, and I am taking some basic Notes on my Notion and though I'd also just publish them here. They are not well thought out or well written but it's just me taking notes from time to time for my reference.

I am taking the Udemy Course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller,

  Notes

We can split code in multiple files, then split those files in multiple packages

then we can use those packages in out projects

It seems similar to making components, splitting code into multiple files to handle code in better way, that way we can create our own packages too

  Creating Packages

we can just create a new
.go
file

every go file must be part of a package

whenever we declare a file in the same package as other file then we can just directly use the functions in any file of the same package

e.g., we create a file with a function, to call that function in a different file we can have both the file in same package, and then directly call the function

Imports are not passed directly through packages

so we have to import other packages that are being used in the function of the new go file

If you create multiple files into a package, then you can use that package into different projects, that way you can have a package that has code that you use again and again then that code goes into a package and that package can be used in another project for the same purpose

  Custom Packages

To create a custom package we will have to create a new folder for that package

the folder name should be the same as the package

the file name can be different, does not need to be same as the package

package fileops

import (
    "errors"
    "fmt"
    "os"
    "strconv"
)

func writeFloatToFile(value float64, fileName string) {
    valueText := fmt.Sprint(value)
    os.WriteFile(fileName, []byte(valueText), 0644)
}

Here I have a package named fileops for which i have folder names fileops which contains a file

that file can be named anything, on top of the file i declared the package name which my file is part of

  Using packages

to use this custom package, you have to import it, the process is same as other inbuilt packages

but in this case you have to point out to the path same as the
go.mod
file

package main

import (
    "fmt"
    "example.com/bank/fileops"
)

here the
example.com/bank
comes from the
go.mod
file which was created when creating the project

  Exporting Identifies - Variables, function, etc…

if you are using some function from a different package, and you have created that package, you will have to export those functions

To export something from a package, that as to be defined in a way so that the name is starting from an uppercase

func WriteFloatToFile(value float64, fileName string) {}
func GetFLoatFromFile(fileName string) (float64, error) {}

this works as same as
export
keyword in JavaScript, where we define a function or variable with export keyword and explicitly, define that, that variable or functions needs to be exported and can be used in other files

So the naming of the function or variable can define if something is exported or not

package main

import (
    "fmt"

    "example.com/bank/fileops"
)
fileops.WriteFloatToFile(accountBalance, accountBalanceFile)

Go has its own Package Directory from where we can get some package that can be used, sometimes there are some features that we might not want to create from scratch and then we can use the “External Package” that are available for GO.

This is a similar concept as NPM Packages

  Using External Packages

There is a Go Command that will add the package to to globally on your system.

go get github.com/Pallinder/go-randomdata

When we run this command the
go.mod
file will be changed and the package will be listed there, all the third party dependencies will be listed there

module example.com/bank

go 1.22.1

require github.com/Pallinder/go-randomdata v1.2.0 // indirect

To use the package, we can define the import path in the go file where we want to use it, the Import path is the same as the github link as it is stored on the
go.mod
file

import (
    "fmt"

    "example.com/bank/fileops"
    "github.com/Pallinder/go-randomdata"
)

After that the usage process is the same, we use the
randomdata.
to get all the method and reference the package page from official site and to check all the methods we can use.

    fmt.Println("Reach us 24/7 ", randomdata.PhoneNumber())

Hey! I am Currently learning Go Lang, and I am taking some basic Notes on my Notion and though I'd also just publish them here. They are not well thought out or well written but it's just me taking notes from time to time for my reference.

I am taking the Udemy Course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller,

  Notes

  Writing in Files

the
os package
provides a function called
WriteFile
that takes in the name of the package, the data to be stored in the file and file mode, which will be the file modifying permissions.

func writeBalanceFiles(balance float64) {
    balanceText := fmt.Sprint(balance)
    os.WriteFile("balance.txt", []byte(balanceText), 0644)
}

  Reading from a file

sometimes when we are getting 2 return values from a function, we can then use a special variable name
_
that means we want get the value but we dont want to use it.

data, _ := os.ReadFile("balance.txt")

here the data will come with a
byte
type, so to handle that, we can only convert that data into a string

we need the data string in float number, so for that we can use the
strconv
package, that gives us different methods to handle string operations

we can use
ParseFloat
method, which will convert the string into floating number, with that we will need to provide the
string value
and
bitSize
which will be 32 or 64

func readFile() float64 {
    data, _ := os.ReadFile("balance.txt")
    balanceText := string(data)
    balance, _ := strconv.ParseFloat(balanceText, 64)
    return balance
}

byte values cannot be directly converted into any type other then string and string value directly cannot be converted into any other type, that will require the use of
strconv
package

  Error handling

In GO, there is a special type as
error
that can be used to give out custom errors which comes from the built in
errors package

In GO, we can use
nil
to check the null value

almost all packages provide an error as return value with a main value, we use the error to to check if there is
nil
value

So, if the error is not nil that means there is an error and in that case we can give out some error response

    if err != nil {
        return 1000, errors.New("failed to find balance file")
    }

    var accountBalance, err = readFile()

    if err != nil {
        fmt.Println("ERROR")
        fmt.Println(err)
        fmt.Println("===============")
    }

  Panic!

there is an in built method called
panic()
that will stop the program execution and give out special error

    if err != nil {
        fmt.Println("ERROR")
        fmt.Println(err)
        fmt.Println("===============")
        panic("Can't Continue Sorry!")
    }

Hey! I am Currently learning Go Lang, and I am taking some basic Notes on my Notion and though I'd also just publish them here. They are not well thought out or well written but it's just me taking notes from time to time for my reference.

I am taking the Udemy Course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller,

  Notes

  Loops

In Go lang there is only
for loop
, other than this there are no loops

So, same as conditionals, loops does not have round brackets to wrap around the condition

    for i := 0; i < 200; i++ {}

they are directly declared with the
:=
syntax for the variable declaration

  Infinite for Loop

if we define a for loop without any condition then that loop can work as an infinite loop

    for {
        fmt.Println("===============")
        fmt.Println("What do you want to do?")
    }

one way to get out of the infinite loop in this case would be to use
return
statement but with that whole program will be stopped and anything added after that will not be executed

So to get out of the loops we can use the
break
statement, which will stop the loop and start executing next line of the loop

We can use
continue
statement to break out of any particular condition and get back to the main loops, this helps when working with conditions inside a loop, so that way we can stop any particular condition and start the loops again

continue
statement will stop the current iteration of the loop and start again that loop

  Switch statement

It is same as the other languages, nothing specific to GO in this

switch choice {
        case 1:
            fmt.Println("Your Balance is", accountBalance)
        case 2:
            fmt.Print("Your Deposit: ")
        case 3:

Hey! I am Currently learning Go Lang, and I am taking some basic Notes on my Notion and though I'd also just publish them here. They are not well thought out or well written but it's just me taking notes from time to time for my reference.

I am taking the Udemy Course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller,

  Notes

  Different way to declare return Variables

when you declare the type of variables on function, there you can also add the variables name, and that way you dont have to declare those return variables

also then you dont have to add those variable names after the return statement, Go will understand which variables to return

func calculateFutureValue(investmentAmount, expectedReturn, years float64) (fv float64, rfv float64) {
    fv = (investmentAmount) * math.Pow(1+expectedReturn/100, float64(years))
    rfv = fv / math.Pow(1+inflationRate/100, years)
    return
}

starting new project with command

go mod init example.com/bank

Booleans for checks

wantsCheckBalance := choice == 1

if condition is similar but only round parenthesis is not used, directly the condition is used

    if choice == 1 || choice == 2 {
    }

All the conditional
&&
and
||
are also the same

to check the condition or compare we can use the double equals operator
==

else if
is also the same as other language

    if choice == 1 {
        fmt.Println("Your Balance is", accountBalance)
    } else if choice == 2 {
  }

Increment operator works the same

accountBalance += depositAmount
//which equals to accountBalance = accountBalance + depositAmount

Hey! I am Currently learning Go Lang, and I am taking some basic Notes on my Notion and though I'd also just publish them here. They are not well thought out or well written but it's just me taking notes from time to time for my reference.

I am taking the Udemy Course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller,

  Notes

  Defining Functions

all the user defined Functions are defined below the
main
function

a function in Go can be defined using
func
keyword

We can add parameters to the function, when adding parameters we have to define the type of the parameter

func outputText(text1 string, text2 string){
    fmt.Print()
}

if the parameters are of same type then we can define the parameter and have the type only once, then we have to add the parameter name and at the end add the type of the parameter

func outputText(text1, text2 string) {
    fmt.Print()
}

After that we can use it like any other function in any language

outputText("Investment Amount: ")
fmt.Scan(&investmentAmount)

func outputText(text1 string) {
    fmt.Print(text1)
}

in Go lang, we can return multiple values from a single function

In Go, variables are block scoped, which means any variables defined inside the function or block are scoped to that function and we can use them outside the function

We can define the variables outside the main function or any other function to have them as global scope and then we can use them inside any function in the file.

We can only define const and var declaration as global declaration, we cannot do this to any other declaration

That means
:=
syntax cannot be used in the global scope

const inflationRate = 2.5

func main() {
    var investmentAmount float64 = 1000
    var years float64
    var expectedReturn = 5.5
}

when returning any value, we have to define the return type of the function

If we are returning 2 values we have to wrap it into rounded parenthesis, and then define the type of specific return to its type

with this we can define specific types to any return value
func demo ()(float64, int){}

func calculateFutureValue(investmentAmount, expectedReturn, years float64) (float64, float64) {
    fv := (investmentAmount) * math.Pow(1+expectedReturn/100, float64(years))
    rfv := fv / math.Pow(1+inflationRate/100, years)
    return fv, rfv
}

when we want to store the return values in the variable, we can have 2 variable by comma separated variable names

futureValue, futureRealValue := calculateFutureValue(investmentAmount, expectedReturn, years)

Hey! I am Currently learning Go Lang, and I am taking some basic Notes on my Notion and though I'd also just publish them here. They are not well thought out or well written but it's just me taking notes from time to time for my reference.

I am taking the Udemy Course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller,

  Notes

  We can format the Output Strings with Printf() Method

there are different option to add to the output string that can format it

here we have
%v
  and
\n
that helped to add the variable value and also with
\n
everything after it will be on next line

There are many of these “verbs that we can add to format, check the official docs

We can use
%.0f
to round the floating numbers

the number before f refers to the number we wanna show after the .

  - so if we say
%.2f
that will print 2 number after .

fmt.Printf("Future Value : %v\nFuture Value (Adjusted for Inflation): %v", futureValue, futureRealValue)

  Storing Formatted strings into a variable

using the method
Sprintf()
we can store any formatted string into a variable and then use that variable instead of whole string

formattedFV := fmt.Sprintf("Future Value : %.0f\n", futureValue)
formattedFRV := fmt.Sprintf("Future Value (Adjusted for Inflation): %0.f\n", futureRealValue)

after that we can use the Print() method to print these strings which will just print the string without any formatting

fmt.Print(formattedFV, formattedFRV)

  Multi line Strings

We can use backticks `` instead of double quotes to create multiline formatted string, this way

`go
fmt.Printf(`Future Value : %v Future Value (Adjusted for Inflation): %v`, futureValue, futureRealValue)
`

Hey! I am Currently learning Go Lang, and I am taking some basic Notes on my Notion and though I'd also just publish them here. They are not well thought out or well written but it's just me taking notes from time to time for my reference.

I am taking the Udemy Course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller,

  Notes

  User Input

Getting values from users through cli is pretty similar to how it is done in C language

we can use the Scan() method of the fmt package to do that.

fmt.Scan(&investmentAmount)

here the investmentAmount is already declared and it has a value in it so to override that we are using the “&” symbol, which is a pointer to the actual variable and here will override the value from user input

If user dont give any value to the variable, it will be initialized with the default value of the type, for float it will be 0.0

  Declaring Variables without initial value

We can declare a variable without initializing any value to that variable, but for that, we will need to explicitly declare the type of the variable, which required as GO Lang is a statically typed language

This will be declared using the var keyword and then the variable name and then the type of variable

var years float64
var expectedReturn float64

  All Methods to declare variables in GO Lang

const inflationRate = 2.5
var investmentAmount float64 = 1000
var years float64
expectedReturn := 5.5

I am taking the Udemy Course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller,

Notes

Variable Declarations

variables can be declared via “var” keyword

and also with special assignment operator “:=” so with that we can remove the “var” keyword

this assignment operator is useful when we dont have to change the type of variable that is assigned by GO

because with “:=” we can not declare the type of variable

expectedReturn float64 := 5.5

above is invalid

expectedReturn := 5.5

above is valid

we can declare multiple variables at the same time with same type

var investmentAmount, years float64 = 1000, 10

if we dont declare the type of variable on that line then we can also declare multiple variables with different types

var investmentAmount, years  = 1000, "10"

I am taking the Udemy Course by Maximilian Schwarzmüller,

  Notes

import "fmt"

func main(){
    fmt.Print("Hello World")
}

go run app.go

Main function is the entry point for whole GO application

Print is a method that comes from the fmt package

Strings are only allowed in double quotes or backticks only

Every Go file needs a package imported that will be same as the file name

Idea for packages is to organize code

package can be made up of multiple files

  Explicit type declaration

Go can by itself get the type of values being stored in the variable, but we can also declare a type so that we can say what value can be stored there and with that we can remove any extra type conversion

    var investmentAmount float64 = 1000

explicit type can be added after the variable name

Curiosity in Tech

A bit of a background check here, I've been interested in computers like so many others, but one time i went to buy books with my cousin (who was studying CS back then) for his college and then i saw him buy this assembly language book, this heavy book which had this name on it “Intel” and it sparked my curiosity more because Intel was this magistic company that i only saw the sticker of on computers!

Now that moment made me get into computer engineering and then slowly i got into web development and then…. At last here i am a web designer working and creating things with HTML CSS!, that end my have been a bit anticlimactic, but my point is, i got into this field because of my curiosity of how these machines called computers work, i mean i slowly learnt little about assembly language and then the binary code and also the all these things i saw in my father's keypad phone and the things he did while working on his computer it all made sense, all the concepts i learnt and got to know during my diploma, it all made sense!

This all made me appreciate this world of computer!

Okay! Let's get to main topic, so….there is me who was really into this world and then there were my classmates and others who were into this field and i can see how much difference of interest me and them were having! There was no curiousity, no interest in learning or getting to know how things worked. So like the common narrative of getting into IT field around me was that the salary was good, and also it was much easier them getting into Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Most of these people were not into this field because of the same curiosity. which was fine by me, but now being an employee and also working in this field for past 2 years I've noticed this that yeah people are coming to just complete their tasks somehow and go home, whereas i see some people on internet who are passionate about talking these things, how they work, how the internals function. It makes me jealous tho, i also wanna be around those kinda people.

Basically Nerd out about this fascinating technologies that make our lives better everyday. Most people outside of IT think we are writing gibberish all day sitting in front of the screen, to some extent that's true but also logically it makes sense. In india specifically we are getting so many startups and so many ideas being executed everyday that makes our lives easy, be it payment systems, going places. Even smallest vendors are using these technologies.

Then comes us, the IT guys with curiosity on how these things function and what type of improvements can be added to make the experience more better! That's the curiousity I'm looking for, from people around me. I am seeing some senior developers talk about them which makes me happy and i also join them even though I don't understand many things but i go home and look into those things. One of which is System Designs, I don't understand it much right now but hopefully I'll get into it properly.

Well that's it! Thanks for reading till end(if you really did then, I really appreciate it!!), also do checkout my other blogs if you like to!
