Mental Health Resources for developers

Here's a project I began a few weeks ago. It's a website to help developers improve their mental health, and find help if they're currently depressed or anxious.

Depression and anxiety are taboo topics. There's hardly any posts mentioning those terms here. Yet 300 million people around the world experience depression. I assume some of those are developers. I assume some might even be here.

To begin you can take the Burns Depression Test. It's a quick way to answer 25 questions and see how bad (or good) you're doing. If you're moderately or severely depressed, please ask for help.

There's a link in the home page to a podcast episode called "How to ask for help". There's also a list of books I've found helpful for dealing with my own depression.

The project is half baked and not finished at all. I don't even have a domain name yet. But I'd rather share it how, than wait until it's finished.

If you need help, write me. I'll see what I can do.

Hello everyone. I'm aware of GatsbyTutorials.com, but I see that there's not that many content being added there.

I'm wondering if any of you have found or written a tutorial for real beginners. Most of these videos assume you already know half of what you're doing.

Thanks!

Today is World AIDS day

Today, December 1st, is World AIDS day. This year the United Nations has been encouraging everyone to know their HIV status. Knowing your HIV status is very important not only for yourself but for your sexual partner(s).

Antiretroviral therapy is now amazing and people who are HIV positive can live healthy lives and even stop spreading the virus. But knowing your status is crucial —it's the very first step.

So spread the word. Take courage and take the test.

Screencast on Node, Express and MongoDB for beginners

I found on Safari Books online a great introductory video tutorial on Node, Express and MongoDB. Many screencasts say they're for beginners but are actually hard to follow or assume you know a lot before you can start. This screencast by Brad Traversy of Traversy Media is really good. I've been able to follow along and really learn step by step.

It begins with a simple CRUD app and then it progressively gets more complex. It ends up with user registration, OAUTH and even security. But if you are a real beginner you can learn from this video.

BTW: Safari Books Online has a 10 day free trial. Go and use it!
