My 2024 Software Development Goals Update

It's been 170 days since I set my 2024 resolutions. It's been tough but the grind is worth it.

At the beginning of the year, I promised self-growth, this includes:

Growing melbite platform with over 100,000 users by the end of the year. 😊
Growing my YouTube channel to 10k subs.
😊 Become the best tech trainer/instructor in Africa
Grow my software development course "progskill" and impact thousands of software developers across the globe.
And finally do 300 days of code, everything documented on my GitHub profile With this kind of goals, it seems hard to achieve, Yes it might be but once you take your first step, most of these goals will align.

Here is my update on each in no particular order:

300DaysOfCode challenge - I have been able to beat all the odds and coding challenges in which have done 200DaysOfCode - 100DaysToGo.This achievement has made me feel better about myself. I can really achieve anything. 😊
Growing my YouTube Channel - At the beginning of the year, we have grown YouTube subscribers from 150 subscribers to 420 subscribers. Motivate me by subscribing to my tech YouTube channel. 😊
Being the best trainer In Africa - this year, I have been able to train over 6,000 people across the globe on how to create software through my YouTube channel with different programming languages including Python development, Javascript Development, ReactJs, Typescript Course, and Machine Learning.

In today's highly competitive business landscape, one of the key skills every entrepreneur must master is the art of delivering a compelling elevator pitch.

The elevator pitch isn’t just an exercise — it’s your introduction. It’s your first and most important pitch. This short but impactful presentation can make or break opportunities, whether it's securing funding, attracting customers, or engaging potential partners.

To maximize the chances of success, it is crucial to tailor your pitch to the specific situation. This means understanding the needs, interests, and expectations of your audience and customizing your message accordingly. By doing so, you can effectively showcase the value of your product or service and demonstrate how it directly addresses their pain points or fulfills their desires.

You might be at a reception of a startup event filled with angels and VCs. The woman in front of you in the drinks line casually asks, “What brings you here?” You only have a few seconds to wow her.

If you start in with your problem, solution, and market size, she’ll nod, say “Sounds wonderful,” and disappear as soon as she's handed a beer.

Or I’ve invited you to join me as a guest to observe an angel pitch event. Although you’re not scheduled to give a formal pitch that day, you’ll have a chance to introduce yourself to the group. You need to make it quick. You’ve only got a few breaths to make an impression before we move on to the next guest.

Or you’re at a wedding and the groom’s uncle is a venture capitalist. He asks you what you do. You’ve got one sentence to get invited to send him a pitch deck tomorrow.

Here’s how to nail it and hook investors.

Nailing your elevator pitch requires a combination of preparation, confidence, and adaptability. Here are a few tips for delivering an effective elevator pitch:

Know your audience- Tailor your pitch to the person or group you’re addressing. Highlight aspects of your pitch that are most relevant or appealing to them. Understanding their needs, interests or similar companies they have invested in helps you frame your pitch effectively.
Clarity and conciseness - Focus on key the points, your value proposition or what you offer. Avoid technical language that might confuse your audience. Have different versions of your pitch between 30 seconds to two minutes
Highlight the unique value - Emphasize your unique selling points, skills or experiences. Whether it’s a solution to a problem or a unique perspective, make it memorable and distinct. What sets you apart?
Practice and practice - Rehearse your pitch until it feels natural but not scripted. Practice in front of a mirror, with friends, or record yourself to refine your delivery, tone, and timing. The more comfortable you are, the more confidently you’ll deliver it.
Engage your audience/listeners - Pay attention to the cues your audience gives you and adjust your pitch accordingly. This interaction can lead to a more meaningful connection. Remember, an elevator pitch isn’t just about conveying information; it’s about creating a memorable and engaging conversation that leaves a positive impression.

What are Investors looking for?

The investor is looking for:

Who are you and what have you built?

What problem are you addressing and for whom?
What advantage do you have over competitors?
What stage are you at?
What traction have you achieved?
And what is your ask?

You could hopefully sum that up in 90 seconds.

What to Avoid while Pitching

One common mistake is a lack of clarity in the message. When crafting a pitch deck, it’s crucial to ensure that the main idea is communicated clearly and concisely. The use of technical jargon can confuse the listener and dilute the impact of the pitch.

Another pitfall to avoid is overwhelming the audience with too much information. It’s essential to focus on the most compelling and relevant aspects of the product, service, or idea without delving into unnecessary details that might overshadow the main message.

Now that you think about it, your first thought is probably, "What is this glassmorphism?" Alright, let us get started on defining this glassmorphism.

"Glassmorphism" is a design trend in user interface (UI) design that creates a frosted glass effect for digital elements. It involves using translucent layers, blur effects, and subtle shadows to mimic the appearance of frosted glass, giving the interface a sense of depth and dimensionality.

Bla bla bla In other words, "glassmorphism" is the term for a design style in which items on a screen seem to be made of glass.

So, how should we approach this user interface?

The first step is, of course, to log into Figma.
Next create a new file and rename our existing one.
Using the toolbar, let us make a frame. I went with a desktop frame.

Now let us draw a rectangle, make sure it fits inside the frame, and add a gradient color of your choosing, with horizontal gradient lines and your choice of colors added to the center of the frame.

Now let's add some circles and add effects to the circles such that they blend and look like glass or translucent hope That makes sense

And also add a rectangle for our sign-up and have the rectangle have a linear gradient of your choice the colors should be white (75% and 25%) with reduced opacity of 75%

Now lets add content This is simple: add text and some input rectangles for the form This is how it should look.

and tada!!! there we have it

You may have heard the terms “data scientist” and “data analyst” mentioned before.

Though there is a lot of fight between the two fields. The main difference is how much they rely on machine learning. In general, data analytics contains everything from collecting data to spotting trends to communicating insights.

Data science is a broader field that includes data analytics and sometimes involves making predictions with tools like machine learning or conducting experiments with data.

A lot of companies collect large amounts of data. Most of those companies benefit from the data that helps them make decisions and future predictions, though some companies might be required to implement algorithms that will help in analyzing the data and giving insights

What is Data Science?

Data science is really a broad field that includes data analytics. It covers concepts like working with big data, making predictions with machine learning, and developing artificial intelligence.

Data Scientists implement algorithms to recognize patterns in new information, automate data processes, and also make recommendations based on past behavior.

They work on the implementation of things like creating chatbots, foreseeing the financial future, detecting tumors in X-ray images, and often making suggestions of things you might like.

Tools and languages used in Data Science

Data Scientists commonly use SQL and Python or R. Python’s popularity among Data Scientists has been growing as more libraries are created that focus on working with data. But Python isn’t the only language, and depending on what industry you go into, you might need to pick up other data science languages.

What is data analytics?

Data analytics is mostly useful in helping organizations, companies, and individuals in making decisions based on data. Some good applications of data analytics are:

How housing cost can affect certain regions,
Help health institutions analyze medical results and disease trends,
Website page visits can give information on market distribution,
Education institutions get to know students' score trends among other applications.

Data analytics helps in finding patterns and information from the large quantity of data organizations have. Data analysts work on sharing actionable insights in visuals and reports based on data.

According to the market trends and needs, there are more jobs for data analysts because most companies need to put the collected data to work and help in decision-making and coming up with marketing strategies.

Tools and languages used in Data Analytics

Generally, Data Analysts use SQL and Python or R. SQL interacts with data housed inside databases, and Python and R analyze and graph the data to show trends and patterns

2023 I managed to achieve several goals,

1. Celebrated a year at PowerLearnProject, as a web development trainer.
2. Started my journey into data science
3. Started a software programming YouTube channel

6. Above all I managed to do 112 days of code - checkout my GitHub

Having achieved several goals in the previous year, it's now time to create new year's Software engineering goals, Coding resolutions, Technology Education, Tech skills improvement, and Software development aspirations goals.

This year 2024, my biggest goal is to create a better version of myself. We all admit software development career is a competitive field, thus to emerge on top we need to do the most, write code as much as we can, and learn various software development skills, tools, and trends.
