Help with Story Points Estimation

Hi everyone! 👋

Have you ever struggled with story points estimation? I definitely have. Those long discussions where everyone throws numbers around... it can be frustrating to settle on a number that actually makes sense. That’s why I built a small web app to help teams make more rational decisions.

The tool is super simple:

It lets you estimate points based on things like complexity, dependencies, resources, and effort (instead of just guessing).

It also gives little hints depending on the points you choose, like whether the story might be too big to tackle or if it could be broken down.

I’m not claiming it’s perfect... I just want to share something that is helping me. Maybe it’ll help you too?

If you give it a try, I’d love to hear what you think. I’m open to feedback and ideas to make it better!

🚀 Cheers!

Help with thesis survey - PHP developers wanted

I'm concluding my Master's degree work, and I need PHP Developers to help me with my research.

So, I would appreciate it if you could get some time and participate in a survey, and maybe in an experiment. I say "maybe" because there is a selection criteria, and the survey system will give you the right directions, according to your answers.

My work is based in Legacy Software Maintenance, and based on this survey and experiment, I am proposing a framework to improve our work maintaining legacy software. For now, it will be focused on PHP, but future works may expand for other programming languages as well. Even for an experienced developer, I believe there are always new things to learn.

Maybe by participating you may find some solutions for problems that you have in your projects.

Some important information:

The survey and experiment will be open for participation from Nov 1st, 00:00:00 MDT, until Nov 8th, 00:00:00 MDT.

All data will be anonymous.

The survey should take from 20 to 30 minutes.

The experiment should take approximately 120 minutes.

If selected, you need to do the survey+experiment at once, so I recommend setting apart a period of 2:30 hours to do it.

This is the link to participate: https://landing.pyara.org .

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or suggestions.
Thank you,

What about Phalcon?

I have worked with PHP for almost 20 years. Yes, it takes a lot of time. And in general I worked building my projects from scratch - or creating some kind of small custom framework to turn the work easier, more productive and less error prone. But when I first heard about Phalcon, I became really curious how it works.

"A high-performance PHP framework, with a small memory footprint and a lot of cool features in it?"

Yes, it looks interesting. Maybe using Phalcon with other technologies, such as Swoole, Containers ( Docker and Kubernetes ), and Kafka, we could build solutions for high-load environments, like IoT, for example.

So, I started to play with it, and set a goal to build some applications, deploy and proceed with some benchmark tests. This is just the beginning. Anyone interested in joining me in this endeavour?

A new polite communication protocol

I didn't know how polite Canadians are. I just realized that when I came to Canada, a couple years ago. And I liked that. But just wondering how could be a communication protocol following the same principles.

And also

Of course the system might get a bit slow - but at end of the day, much more polite.
