Back to coding. But....

It's been a while since I have written anything about code. Honestly, my mind has been making it look like a very tedious thing to do and to be frank, I dropped coding for a while, didn't look like I was making any progress. But my head is back in, still on PHP though and now working with the Laravel framework.

Honestly, I really feel like giving up cause I don't see progress, still on building a simple Todo app for about 3 weeks and counting. And oh did I mention that my frontend skills are whack, I haven't done anything frontend in a long while.

But right now I'm currently having issues with the "DELETE" method in Laravel. For some reason, method spoofing seems not to be working. Done all I think I know how to do but no results.

Also reading documentations are important but I find that boring. But I guess I just have to go beyond that. I'm sorry if you came here hoping to learn something, I don't think I have learnt enough to do that. Not to be self-deprecating, but what could you possibly learn from me?

Okay I think that's it. I haven't written in a while so I thought I would pick that back up and just felt like ranting. Byyee!

Lessons Learned In Building A Small Project

So I realized that I didn't grasp a lot concepts when learning PHP and programming in general and part of that was not learning to build some projects and little apps that help you grab the basics. I just run towards a big project or something. It took a failed interview for me to realize that I had to go back to the drawing board, a lot of things I figured I needed to learn how to do right. One of them is also blogging, hence I'm writing this article.

I started out by just going through the basics again and this time with PHP where I decided to build a simple calculator after following an exercise and no, I did not do a code along. When using tutorials to learn, it's important that you try to do what you have learnt without the assistance of the instructor and repeat out loud to your self the reason why each piece of code exists. You must be able to explain your code to yourself first before you able to explain it to someone else.

In this particular pet project, I built a simple calculator in PHP to understand how to use Object Oriented Programming and not just have it as a concept in my head. So even in my sleep, I think I can code it all over again, at least redid the whole thing twice. Initially, I never knew you could write a piece of code to auto load your classes and that was one key thing I learnt today.

Also understanding the difference between the object properties and the parameters __construct function was quite important as one can tend to confuse both, especially when they have the same naming.

All in, it was a good day for me. Dropped a tweet as well on what I achieved for today using the #100DaysOfCode on Twitter. It helps to keep you committed.

So I recently picked up on the laravel framework and built a crude app. Would love a list of laravel projects that could help me learn and know more or some tutorial links or something on a group of projects. Would also love the same for vanilla php. Let me know what you think please

How To Grow As A Backend Developer?

At the time I am writing this, I do not know what yet to title this post. But this is what's on my mind.

Been learning to code for a while now. It's been a difficult long road without having anyone to really guide me. Fell in to tutorial purgatory for a long while and just kept copying other people's code.

After a while I settled for Backend programming, PHP to be precise and I loved it. But getting someone to mentor me without having to pay has been difficult and the ones who try to pitch in are always too busy as they have to attend to other things.

Learnt the basics of procedural PHP and just started getting into frameworks, Laravel. But somehow I feel stuck on trying to apply what I have learnt.

Has anyone got an advice for me please cause I don't know how to move forward. Plus I need a mentor.
