Final checks before launch

Hi 💁‍♂️

We are still working on the MVP but we plan to officially launch our website next week. Any comment, suggestion, remark about the service and the website would help us greatly.

Address : https://www.thedatapond.net

Based on your feedback over the past few days, we've tried to improve our landing page. He added three case studies to help people better understand what the website is for.

We are still wondering what's the better headline :

GEOLOCALIZED OPEN DATA EXTRACTION
or

EXTRACT GEOLOCALIZED OPEN DATA

The subtitle is : "from a geographic area to a list of names, addresses, websites, phone numbers, email addresses...". Does it help ?

And we are thinking about adding this somewhere : "Are you looking for clients in a particular geographic area and in a particular industry? Try TDP to build a contact list and start offering your services.".
Is it necessary ? relevant ? too much ?

If you find a typo or grammar errors, please let us know.

We look forward to reading your comments.

 Thanks 🙏

The three case studies :

CASE STUDY #1
Babelli, translation company
Babelli specializes in the translation of menus and websites. This small company wants to offer its services to bars in two new small towns. They plan to cold call potential clients, check their website, ans send them documentation.
data extracted :

761 addresses

402 websites

578 phone numbers

339 email addresses

CASE STUDY #2
Henry, accountant specializing in restaurants
Henry would like to expand his client list. He will therefore seek new contacts, district by district, starting with the Chelsea district, in order to offer his services to restaurant managers.
data extracted :

140 addresses

80 websites

56 phone numbers

16 email addresses

CASE STUDY #3
Valentine, creator / designer
Valentine has created a new plastic-free flower packaging. She wishes to contact the florists of her city to present her creation and convince them to switch to eco-friendly packaging.
data extracted :

208 addresses

92 websites

98 phone numbers

74 email addresses

Data from services like Google Maps or Foursquare cannot be used for marketing or communication. For example, Google Maps Terms of Services (3.2.3) say 'No Scraping. Customer will not export, extract, or otherwise scrape Google Maps Content for use outside the Services.
Data from The Data Pond are under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL).'You are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt our data, as long as you credit OpenStreetMap and its contributors. If you alter or build upon our data, you may distribute the result only under the same license.'

Is the description on the landing page clear enough to figure out what the site does ? 🔍

Website : https://www.thedatapond.net
Demo : https://www.thedatapond.net/demo

Last week we launched www.thedatapond.net and published our first post on IH (here).

Feedback has been positive so far. The idea seems to be good.

Now we need to focus on the landing page. What do you think about it ?

is the description clear enough to figure out what the site does ?

is there better descriptions ? better keywords ?

is SEO satisfactory ? what can we improve ?

We have difficulties :

creating a list of keywords we could use to describe the project and could use for research

clearly define the sectors to target / the niche

We don't know much about marketing, so any help would help us learn faster.

If you find typo or grammatical errors, please, tell us. English is not our mother tongue.

Thanks

🚀 We just launched an MVP this week. As feedback has been positive so far, we would like now to focus on SEO.

The results are OK with PageSpeed Insights and Webdev, but comments or remarks would help us to learn faster.

MVP address : www.thedatapond.net

An idea and a MVP, is it worth to continue?

🧱 Genesis
A few month ago, I was looking for a way to get a list of restaurants in a given city, in a specific area. I needed a list of addresses (and phone numbers if possible). After extensive research, I found nothing satisfactory.

So, I tried to get this information from Google Maps and Foursquare until I read their terms of service. Obviously, data from services such as Google Maps or Foursquare can not be used extracted. For example, the Google Maps Terms of Service (3.2.4) states "Customer will not extract, export, scrape, or cache Google Maps Content for use outside the Services".

Then, I tried OpenStreetMaps and found what I was looking for: a list that could be used without constraints. However, it is quite difficult to define a specific area and to extract these data. That's when I decided to create a tool to automate the process.

At first it was only for me, and after some time and more free time I decided to create a website around and start a new project: www.thedatapond.net. I'm not sure yet, but people may be interested in this type of service. Tell me what you think in the comments. Good idea, bad idea?

🕹️ How it works ?
If you want to get data from the map, the procedure is pretty simple :

🗺️ draw a geographic zone on the map

🧩 define your parameters (categories, keywords...)

🗃️ and you get a list of names, addresses, websites, telephone numbers... which you can download in CSV format.

The data you get are not as rich as data from services like Google Maps or Foursquare but, at least, it is legal to use them (ODC Open Database License).

The website is not completely finished, there are still 1000 things to do: design, typo, features, improve lists... but the idea is to continue development based on comments or requests from users.

If the feedback is positive, I'll see if it's a good idea to spend some time on this project and push it to the next level 🚀 : SEO, Product Hunt, Hacker News, Reddit, ads...

We are now super eager to read your comments (positive or not).

🙏
