Building a SaaS at 16 'BookChap'

I didn’t start with a plan.

No roadmap.
No “learn X in 30 days.”
No idea what a SaaS even meant.

Just curiosity.

It started simple

I was 12 when I wrote my first line of code.

console.log("Hello World");

At the time, it felt like nothing.

But looking back, that was the moment everything changed.

Not because of the code…
But because of what it unlocked.

The trap most beginners fall into

If you’re learning to code right now, let me ask you something:

What have you actually built?

Not tutorials.
Not clones.
Not a calculator app you followed step-by-step.

Something real.

Something that solves a problem.

Take a second and think about it.

(I’ll wait.)

Fast forward to now

I’m 16.

And I’m building my first SaaS in public — BookChap.

The idea is simple:

Use AI to turn complex school topics into clear, simple video explanations for students.

Because let’s be honest…

Most students don’t struggle because they’re lazy.

They struggle because the explanation doesn’t make sense.

Day by day (the real version, not the highlight reel)

Day 1
Started the idea. Nothing worked.

Day 2
Spent 3 hours coding.
Got a basic landing page up.

It looked… okay

Day 3
Finished the signup flow.
Integrated Supabase.
Started working on the pending page.

Still messy. Still confusing.
But it’s starting to feel real.

🧠 Why I chose to build in public

Not for likes.

Not for “fame.”

But for accountability.

When you build in public:

You can’t hide behind “I’ll do it later”
You get feedback early
You grow faster (because people see your mistakes too)

It’s uncomfortable.

But it works.

Curiosity to Creation, Journey as a 16 y/o dev

When I first saw programming, I didn’t really understand it. I just saw people writing strange words on a screen and somehow computers listened to them.

The first thing I ever learned was this:

console.log("Hello World")

At first it didn’t look like anything special. But when it printed words on the screen, I thought it was really cool.

*The Beginning

I have always liked technology and things about the future like AI and robots. I didn’t have the best devices or tools, but that didn’t stop me from trying to learn.

So I started watching tutorials and reading things online. Sometimes I understood them, sometimes I didn’t.

*Learning Was Not Easy

When I started learning JavaScript, many things were confusing.

Things like:

functions

arrays

promises

Sometimes my code didn’t work and I didn’t know why. I would stare at the screen for a long time trying to find the mistake.

But slowly it started making sense.

Small Projects

To practice, I started building small things.

I made things like:

a compliment generator

a mood checker

a to-do list

an Avengers themed login idea

They were small projects but they made me feel proud because I built them myself.

Why I Like Coding

The thing I like about coding is that it lets you create things from ideas in your head.

You imagine something, then you try to build it with code. Sometimes it works, sometimes it breaks, but you keep trying.

It feels a bit like solving puzzles.

What I Am Doing Now

Now I am working on something bigger.

I am building my first SaaS called Book Chap. The idea is to use AI to explain complex topics in a way that is easier to understand. Sometimes textbooks or lessons can feel confusing, so I want to make something that helps students learn faster.

I started this project when I was 16 and it is one of the biggest things I have tried to build so far.

What I Learned

One big thing I learned is that you don’t have to know everything to start.

You just need to be curious and keep trying.

Every small thing you learn adds up.

For Anyone Starting

If you are starting to learn coding, it might feel hard at first.

That’s normal.

Just keep building small things and don’t give up when things break. That is actually part of learning.

One day you will look back and realize how much you have improved.

🚀 I Just Launched My First Product: SecureGen

Alright, picture this: you’re signing up for yet another online account, and the site hits you with the usual nonsense—
“Your password must be 12 characters, one uppercase, one lowercase, a number, a hieroglyph, and a blood oath.”

Cue the sigh. You roll your eyes so hard you almost see your brain, and then like everyone else, you Google password generator.

But here’s the problem:

Half the sites look like they were built in 2004.

The other half are basically ad farms screaming “FREE BITCOIN HERE!!”

And a few are so sketchy you wonder if they’re sending your password straight to a hacker’s inbox.

😬 Not exactly comforting when you’re literally trusting them with your digital life.

So, one day I snapped and thought: “Fine. I’ll build my own.”
And that’s how SecureGen was born.

🎯 What Makes SecureGen Different?
Dummy-proof simple → no endless dropdowns or clutter. Just click and boom, a strong password.

No sketchiness → no ads, no tracking, no hidden scripts.

Actually secure → random, beefy passwords you can trust.

Speedy as heck → works even on your grandma’s phone that still thinks 3G is the future.

It’s not trying to be the next Silicon Valley unicorn. It’s just a clean, safe little tool that I (and maybe you) actually needed.

🛠 Why I Built This
Honestly? Out of frustration.
Sometimes, the best ideas don’t come from trying to be “innovative”—they come from solving a really annoying problem you keep running into.

Building SecureGen also taught me a valuable lesson: small projects can still matter. They can save time, save frustration, and in this case, maybe even protect someone’s account.

Plus, launching it gave me that builder’s high. You know, the “I actually made this and put it out there” feeling? Totally worth it.
