DevVoice: Real-Time Voice Coding Assistant

This is a submission for the AssemblyAI Voice Agents Challenge

What I Built

build

DevVoice is an AI-powered, real-time voice assistant that helps developers fix bugs, learn syntax, and understand programming concepts — just by speaking.

This project fits the Business Automation category by reducing context-switching, streamlining the developer workflow, and boosting hands-free productivity.

Key Features

DevVoice

  • Voice-to-code support – Ask technical questions out loud and get instant help.
  • Understands programming terms – Accurately recognizes words like “JavaScript promises” or “Python decorators.”
  • Handles multi-step queries – e.g., “Explain binary search, then show me a Python example.”
  • Built for developer flow – Seamlessly fits into your existing coding routine.

Problem It Solves

Developers often deal with:

  • Constant tab switching to search documentation or errors.
  • Interruptions that break focus while coding.
  • Typing long, detailed queries into search engines or forums.

DevVoice solves these problems by acting as a real-time, voice-powered coding companion — giving hands-free, accurate help when needed most.

Benefits

benefits

  • Productivity Boost – Stay in your editor, keep your hands on the keyboard.
  • Reduced Cognitive Load – Just speak naturally instead of typing.
  • Faster Debugging – Get answers immediately while staying focused.
  • Inclusive & Accessible – Great for visually impaired users or voice-first workflows.
  • Supports Learning – Ideal for students learning to code via Q&A.

Why I Built It

As a developer, I’ve experienced the friction of breaking my flow to search for answers. I wanted a solution that felt like having a smart, always-available coding partner. That’s why I built DevVoice — a voice agent that answers your coding questions in real time, without needing to type a word.

Thanks to AssemblyAI’s Universal-Streaming API, this assistant can understand and process complex technical queries with ease.
